Me, too, Kathryn! I'm not one to stick with a book that drags.

I do stick with them, in the hope that I will get to a point where it all gets better…! Sadly, I'm often disappointed in this! But I hate to just give up on it - just in case!

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 143 comments Took me about 50 pp of the Book Thief to stop being irritated by the craft getting in the way of the story. After that it has become one of the most immersive and powerful novels I can remember in the last few years. In fact I've deliberately slowed down as I get towards the end to savour it. You can only read a book for the first time once.

Kathryn, I felt the same. It was just ok for me until Max came on the scene, then it picked up. Afterwards, I thought, I must have missed something. But I find that so-so feeling with quite a few Y/A books.

Goodreads picks up when they are one and the same book so Amazon should pick up that Justice for Sara is the same as Don't Look Back !!

I just started listening to the audiobook of this yesterday.
I was a bit unsure at first (had to skip the parts involving cruelty to animals), but liking it more as the main story unfolds.

message 7941: by Diane (new)

Diane | 14 comments Started reading "The Three Miss Kings" by Ada
Cambridge. I think I must have bought it at a
Lifeline Book Fair. It is a Virago Classic and
was first published in 1890. It is one of the
best written Australian books from that time
(that I have read). It is a romance but the
most interesting thing about it is the vivid
descriptions of the 1880 Melbourne Exhibition
and the Melbourne Cup. Even then, fashion and
being seen in the latest style was just as
important as the race.

Adhityani (dhitri) I just finished reading Mateship With Birds and I want the hours I spent trying to comprehend the bizarre storyline back :/ didn't enjoy the book a single bit.

message 7950: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pjaye) I finished The Museum of Extraordinary Things 2 stars from me.
I kept hoping the story would lighten up, but it didn't until the very end. Just morbid and depressing.
