What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)
Liam wrote: "Okay "finished" S.. And by "finished", I mean I finished reading the Ship of Theseus. Now I have to go back to the start and read all the margin notes.."
How is it so far Liam...did you like the story?
Almost finished The Envelope by Maurice Wills. Written from the standpoint of the author, it's about life in Melbourne Orphanage between the 1930s and the 1950s when Maurice (who calls himself Ted in the book) was living there. It's heartbreaking and grim to an outsider, but it's written so matter-if-factly. Fascinating.

I figured the book would be an afterthought to heap the gimmick onto, but it was actually really good. Enjoyed it a lot.
I usually have 3 or 4 books on the go - but I picked up a new book this morning to take to work, The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty, while waiting for hubby to get ready for work and wish I hadn't - already sucked into the story and I had to put it down when I came to work :(
My review for
Phoenix Island by John Dixon which I read in late December, and isn't published until 21st January...

I absolutely agree with you, Sally. This is an amazing book and I love the way it is also about the impact of reading and writing. http://janmerryreadersandwriters.blog...
Dale wrote: "Be interested to hear your thoughts as you progress further, Sally."Is good - the point of view is being swapped around a few characters (all women) and they are slowly connecting with each other. I often find this confusing but Liane Moriartyhasn't gone overboard with the connecting characters so I can keep track very nicely. The husband's secret hasn't been discovered yet but the wife has access to where she is going to find out all ;)

Can't wait to get back to it, Sharon, but sadly it won't be today. Just one of those busy days.
Read Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened in about a day, straight back to S. for the margin stuff. I think this is going to take a couple of passes.
Just finished
given to me by my sister at Christmas (her library were trashing book club copies) & found it a bit of a chore to read, was planning to start
but needed something light & easy first so started
as Charlaine Harris is always an easy read

Yes it is silly I might ask them again. Glad you're enjoying it :)
I'm reading The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough and really enjoying it. How have I managed to never read this (or even see the miniseries) before?!I'm also reading the short story collection Runaway by Alice Munro and it's average. One more short story to go, but I don't want to read it - I want to keep going with The Thorn Birds!!

Yes so do I Brenda. If not I'll keep an eye out for it at Big W :)
I've just started
The Girl in the Yellow Vest by Loretta Hill. Aussie author set in the Barrier Reef :)
Have just started Burial Rites which I have been looking forward to for quite a while. Whilst I am really enjoying it it does seem like a 'quiet' story, if that makes sense (considering the publicity it is getting).

I'm listening to Defending Jacob by William Landay and surprised how much I am enjoying it. Just over half way through and I have no idea if the young 14yo Jacob who is accused of murdering a classmate did it or not.It will be interesting to find out.
Here is my review of The Pillars of the Earth, which I found to be a real page-turner, even though there were a lot of pages to turn!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This day at 2:47am Liam finally finished S.
It took six (6!!) passes to finish it off completely and I probably still missed a bunch of stuff, but jesus christ I did it.
