Elaine | 2001 comments Currently reading 11/22/63 which is awesome.I'm really enjoying it. I know a few of my friends here have read it but thank you Kathryn for actually making me take notice of it, otherwise I would've missed it as I don't normally read Stephen King.

Good to hear you're enjoying it Elaine...we bought it for my son two Christmas' ago, and he loved it!

message 7254: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Oh it's really good Brenda. I don't think you have to be a Stephen King fan or into JFK ( although that's only a small part of the book, really) to enjoy it. I think I will buy it. It's one of those books you want to own I think. Plus I'd like hubby to read it too!!

It's very cleverly written. It's the longest book I read last year, and I hardly even noticed how long it was once I started because it was such an interesting read. Glad you're enjoying it, Elaine!

message 7257: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments And Elaine, that was one of my top 5 recommended books for last year so if you finish it this month, that's another one toward the recommended part of your January challenge!

message 7258: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Thanks Kathryn, didn't realise that. I will definitely finish it soon I think. It's quite "unputdownable". Although holidays are over and it's back to work tomorrow!! :(

Thanks Brenda. He may take a while to get round to it. He tends to resist my recommendations sometimes as he says I'm too controlling...who me?? Never. I just know he'll really enjoy it too.

message 7261: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Yes it was lovely thanks Brenda and of course the usual cliche of being over way too soon. But I guess I should be grateful that we could go away, even for such a short time.

Yan | 7 comments Just finished Brave New World, an interesting book to read and kind of compare it with today.

Also, started the The Guns of August. I just finished reading about the policy, politics and military planning in the years leading up to WWI. From the read of things, the narrative makes it seems inevitable a major war between France, Germany and the UK was going to break out.

I haven't read that one Phrynne, and it sounds good. Caroline Overington is very hot and cold in my opinion. It makes me wary to read any more of hers!

message 7296: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I'm about half way through All That Is by James Salter.

message 7297: by Jo (new)

Jo Rushby | 238 comments Phrynne Caroline Overington is one of my favorite authors. My husband has just read her latest book No place like home and liked it. :)

message 7298: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (suzannesbookshelf) Brothers and Sisters - Charlotte Wood. It's actually and Australian Book which is a collection of short autobiographical stories from Australian Authors about their childhood / relationships with their brothers and/or sisters. Wonderful book, easy to pick up and put down if you are busy or travelling. Some of the subjects the authors talks about I think we can all relate to. Even an autobiographical story about one author who talks about having one child and that it's effects are not negative as those who say they are professionals think!
Looking forward to finishing on Australia Day hopefully when I get time between housework and e-baying!
