I finished Innocence by Dean Koontz last night and could only give it 3 stars. Definitely not his best work. It starts well, gathers momentum and then goes really silly at the end. I thought maybe I had missed the point somewhere but having looked at other people's reviews I see I am not the only one by far.
Shantaram first 100 pages are making me feel like I'm in India and I've never been, though reading the book in Hawaii is hard to take when hump back wales breaching right in front of my eyes. Happy holidays!

Liam wrote: "Finally reading S. Still not entirely sure how to, but I guess I'll figure it out as I go."I got it for Christmas Liam, it's beautiful isn't it? A bit like a well thumbed, well travelled book-come diary. I think I will need some good quiet time before I tackle it properly.
I look forward to hearing your feelings about it.

It is very well done, I'll give it that.
I'm way behind the reading public in that I've just started The Night Circus; what gorgeous imagery and with heaps of fantastic descriptions.Still waiting for The Book Thief; 3 reserves ahead of me:(
I've just this morning startedSea Change. Also have The Best Australian Poems 2013 on the go as well as Deeper Places: Experiencing God in the PsalmsThese three will keep me out of mischief for a while.

Have you tried The Ocean at the End of the Lane as well? It is in a similar vein.

Last I heard you were dropping big hints. I hope you're enjoying it. My husband has that one and The Best Australian Essays 2013, which he is currently reading and says it's brilliant. Keeps telling how good it is and that I should read it!!!
Well, as you see Elaine, the hints worked on my darling husband. I've only read a couple so far. Have to say I probably wouldn't read the essays. Just not my thing. Same with the short stories.

Especially the essays as a regular customer at work has also raved about that one. I'm glad for you too that hubby came through. :)
Finished This Girl definitely not as good as the first 2 books in the series but I quite enjoyed the second half of the book.Just started The Fault in Our Stars
Vicki wrote: "Great review, Sharon. I imagine you needed to keep the tissues handy. I would."Thank you Vicki, yes I certainly did have the tissues handy :(
Ashley wrote: "Currently reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. I'm really enjoying it so far."I don't know if it is because of the age I read it, but it is my favourite book of all time. I just loved it.
I finished The Secret River by Kate Grenville and I thought it was a really interesting book. It highlighted the difficulties faced by the early settlers and the Aboriginal people in Australia - especially with the lack of a common language other than pantomime to enable communication. When I started The Secret River, I really wanted to finish it to get on to The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and I even considered changing my mind and reading The Rosie Project first, but I'm glad I didn't. I'm four chapters in and it's a much lighter read than The Secret River, which I think might have suffered if I'd read these the other way around. I'm loving The Rosie Project - it's making me laugh out loud at some of the things expressed by Don (the main character). He doesn't seem to realise that he has Asperger's, although I think he's done some research in that area, as a geneticist. And he does realise that he isn't very good at certain things, which are aspects of Asperger's - such as subtlety, social interaction - but he hasn't put all the pieces of the jigsaw together yet as they relate to him!!
I'm currently reading an amazing book
A Century of Wisdom: Lessons from the Life of Alice Herz-Somer, the World's Oldest Living Holocaust Survivor by Caroline Stoessinger
She celebrated her 110th birthday on the 26th November 2013! I'm only a little way into the book, but am thoroughly enjoying it:)

She has the most amazing attitude of anyone! For what she went through, and of course her family, she holds no grudges!
I've added it to tbr shelf and just looked at some of the reviews and will be curious what you think.

Am currently reading Unforgivable by [author:Sharon Robard..."I told all my writing group about that yesterday and how good it was.
As an adoptee I have found my birth mother and she has told me about how she was sent from a country NSW town on the train to Melbourne to give birth to me. This was 1957.
I am currently reading Henning Mankell's Wallander series. I first 'met' Wallander through the television series so I decided to check out the author's 'version of events'. I enjoyed reading 'The Troubled Man'
and 'The Faceless Killers' but was not captivated by 'The Man Who Smiled'
. It just seemed to drag on but I did make it to the end eventually.
I just started reading Almost Deadby Aussie authorKaz Delaney I picked it up from her book launch on Saturday, and she signed it for me! It was very exciting; she's only the second author I've ever gotten a signature from. I started reading it and so far I'm loving it.
Just finished
so I can go see the movie Tuesday, now on the copy of
that I won for Mum last month, then probably
