What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)

It's funny because some people are so passionate about it and then some absolutely hated it (which is the camp I more lean towards).
It always fascinates me how we are all so varied with what we like or dislike when it comes to books.

Good start Sharon!
I'm so jealous! I would LOVE to meet Mr Zusak and have him sign my copy of The Book Thief - what a dream come true! But I live beyond the black stump, LOL, and my current state of health won't tolerate travel to my nearest capital city, Adelaide, which is a two-hour drive away. So you guys will just have to post here and tell us all about it, and I shall live vicariously through you :-)
Have just started When Christ and His Saints Slept. A long book that I have had waiting for at least a year!
On Dec 17 I posted about my hubby this post is actually about hubby who reads very little besides newspapers. After I finished
he said, on the strength of some comments I made whilst reading it, "I might like to have a look at that one...." He's up to p 146!!!!! I'm stunned. Keeps repeating bits back to me etc pick up my jaw off the floor! Well, he finished it yesterday!!!. Kept quoting me bits as he read. and said "Find me another book to read" hmmm, what shall I put under his nose next?
The next book up for me is The Book Thief. I've been shying away from this one since publication; maybe I don't like the idea of Death being a narrator... But, hesitation is over and I hope I like it as much as everyone here has.

I think you will. The book has a certain something about it - if it was a person you would say they had charisma. Not sure what you call it when you find it in a book.

Enjoy Bette!
I chose a book by Tony Horwitz's wife, Geraldine Brooks, because he wanted something based on fact and not to recent history, so I went with Year of Wonders

It is unusual being a male's POV, but that's one of the things that's so refreshing about that book
Oooohh I want to put The Rosie Project on my next list for sure!I am currently reading Wolfskin by Juliet Marillier - the first of her's I've read outside of the Sevenwaters series.
I am also reading Dante's Inferno and LOVING every Canto!

replying to posts is doing some funny things, like leaving out part of the text or turning the whole thing into a link....???
I know, it's a bug I think. If you put your reply at the top and the original underneath; it's been working for me...
I've noticed the strange things happening to replies recently as well. I think the problem seems to be when the quoted part of the reply ends in the middle of a linked title or an author, so I just delete the remaining part of the link at the end of the reply and it seems to be fine.

That's a good idea Kathryn..I'll try that!

I enjoyed The Woman in Black but that's the only one I've read by this author Michael.

Disappointed! The Book Thief has not come through from library yet:( @Phrynne Charisma - it must be good!
I've started Just One Evil Act by Elizabeth George. The suave Inspector Lynley fights crime again:)
I'm currently reading 84, Charing Cross Road / The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street. I've finished 84 Charing Cross Road so now onto Duchess of Bloomsbury Street (which isn't as good but still wonderful). Technically two books but as they are so short they are printed in the one edition
I'm currently reading I Am Pilgrim
for my real life bookclub and can barely put it down it's so good. It's a bit of a chunkster but I'm hoping to get through it before our meeting next week.
I'm almost finished Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin and I've loved it so far - it reminds me of Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael series as it's set at a similar period of time and the main characters both have some medical training. Will definitely be reading more of this series (unless the ending turns strange, like Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks!)

'I avoided this book for a long time, because I knew it was narrated by Death, and that sounded like a depressingly morbid proposition to me. I couldn't have been more wrong. Never in a million years would I have expected to make the following statement, but here it is: Zusak's rendering of Death is one of the most likable narrators it has ever been my pleasure to encounter.'
I hope you won't think I ripped off your idea for my review, LOL, I really did start writing it several days ago. I'm kind of having 'review writer's block' at the moment, not because I don't know what to say but because I have too much to say! I'm trying not to write essay-length reviews, LOL, but there is so much to say about this wonderful book!
I finished The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. A hard one to rate for me, I liked it and the story kept me engaged, but it's not a book I'd absolutely rave about. I'd probably give it 3.5 stars if I could. Then for the first part of my Jan challenge I've started Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. Only a little way in, but I like it so far.

I just binged on Life After Life and loved it.I listened to the audiobook and just couldn't stop - I've had my earphones in for almost two solid days it's gone with me everywhere.
I think the unusual way it's written is something you either love or hate - I thought it was fantastic.
I couldn't put it down because I just wanted to know what would happen next.
I can't remember whose top 5 lists it was on (it was on several...and now I know why!) - but thank-you for the prompt to read it.
haven't written my review yet, but definitely 5 stars from me.

Halfway through Girl of Shadows by Deborah Challinor and really enjoying it. This is the sequel to Behind the Sun and it flows on really nicely with the continuing story..
Reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society for my January challenge. I'm loving it!!!
