This was one of my favourite books I read this year
Halfway through I Am Pilgrim and loving it even though it's not a genre I generally read. Also 2/3 way through Ready Player One which I wanted so much to love and whilst I AM liking it I've gotten a bit bogged down in it. I also have 140 pages of Anna Karenina to go and am determined to finish it by the end of the year (given that I started it in January )

Finished reading December's Wish by Karly Lane I enjoyed this one.Mr review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just started : Home Front by Kristin Hannah
I finished Mr. Churchill's Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal last night. I liked the premise, and it was a light and fun read. But it couldn't have been a terribly accurate reproduction of wartime life - as one of the real secretaries told the author while she was researching the book, the secretaries would have had no time for the intrigues and romance depicted here. What's more, I felt as though the main character and her friends were "spoiled little rich girls" and boys - they were working men and women (after all, there's a war on, you know!) but there still seemed to be money to spend on champagne and such fripperies! I'd like to read the next in the series Princess Elizabeth's Spy to see what it's like, but all in all, I'd probably prefer a Jacqueline Winspear Maisie Dobbs novel.I'm now reading Lighthouse Bay by Kimberley Freeman and I'm just over halfway through. It's set in 1901 and 2011 (and I do love stories set in 2 different times) and follows one woman's story in each period. It has totally drawn me in and I'm keen to find out what happens!
I Just finished Nightingale Wood and loved it.My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator was excellent, fun and perfect for this book.
My wife is away so this weekend I had a mini readathon. Finished; Eyrie
The Explorer
Careless People: Murder, Mayhem, and the Invention of The Great Gatsby
Under a Silent Moon
and currently reading The Echo

Did you know she has another one out under a pseudonym?
 Just Breathe by Janette Paul
Janette is her real name, Paul is her husband's name:) It's a romance, and a book she wrote years and years before she wrote her first thriller. She had it in a bottom drawer until after her first 2 successes, and the publisher took it on, much to her surprise!
Here's my review if you're interested https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

about halfway through my non-fiction book for this cycle of my TBR

by Tony Horwitz, interesting but not rivetting. At least my eyes aren't glazing over, most of the time.....

An Abundance of Katherines. My first John Green novel, since pretty much everyone has been telling me to read them.

Right As Rain by Tricia Stringer
Finished Mohawk by Richard Russo 4★ Thank you Mr Russo. Finished The Reserve by Russell Banks 2.5★ Disappointing, weak plot, over-dramatized characters.
      well,

was interesting, even if it was a bit of a slow read. Now I'm onto

394 pages minus all the half pages at the beginning and end of 114 chapters equals about 250 pages, plus a bit more exciting, should be a quick read!

I started reading In One Person by John Irving for the second time. Partly because it fits into my Summer Challenge but also it speaks volumes about the early years of the Aids epidemic from a very personal point of view. A very honest, informative and heart-breaking account.
I finished The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and loved it!!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Loving The Night Guest but it's scaring me!
I'm currently reading Whispers by Dean Koontz, first published in 1980. It was referenced in a writing craft book I was reading as a good example of conflict and suspense. So far, so good...

Tricia Stringer hails from my neck of the woods and recently held her latest book release in Moonta, the next town over from where I live. Nice to see her mentioned here!
Finished reading Home Front by Kristin Hannah

Yes and I loved it but you need to like books involving magic and fantasy or you might not enjoy it much.

I loved The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings; I'm thinking it's like that? But I need a bit of a change in my reading atm so I'm game. It has such great reviews for the fiction, hist/fict and literary aspect.

You should like it then I think. It is also the author's debut novel which makes it pretty amazing.

@Michael (In the moment, we're lost and found) and @Mish,I've started The Street Sweeper; up to Pg 132. I'm thinking "this is 'ten kinds of wonderful" - it's going to be a late night here:)

I'm not sure why I like stories that flip back and forth between current times and the past so much - I think I like the way you can see that threads from the past affect what happens in later years and provide an understanding of future events. This wasn't as tightly linked as some of these sorts of stories, but it was still a good read.
I'm now reading The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro and loving it! The butler is so very British and so very correct in his attitude and actions! I can just see the house he worked at, Darlington Hall, and it looks very much like Downton Abbey to me! It's a very descriptive book which can mean that at times I need to go back and re-read passages because I've inadvertently glossed over parts. I'm not even halfway through yet, so I hope it continues as well as it's started!
