I thought Death Comes to Pemberley was very ordinary. P.D. James usually writes much better books than that.

Except that if Reacher did not survive there wouldn't be a sequel :)
Good books aren't they! I still wish they had not used Tom Cruise to play Reacher in the movie though.

Steve | 1031 comments Geoff wrote: "Can't imagine Tom Cruise as Reacher. I think I'll give the movie a miss. "

Neither, so I have been ignoring the movie as well. I think Steven Segal would have made an excellent Reacher.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've finished The Confessions of Edward Day by Valerie Martin. I've commented on the novel here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

And I've started NW by the irrepressible Zadie Smith who also wrote The Autograph Man which I loved.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I seem to have lost my 'reviewing' brain these last few books. Maybe I'm starting a new book too soon after a completed one??? Does this happen to anyone else?

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Haven't started it yet, but got S. in the post today - had to show off how pretty it is.

Not sure how good it will be, especially with me being a huge fan of House of Leaves which is an extremely similar concept, but I guess we'll see.

Neither did I. And I love both Jane Austen and murder mysteries. This was a snorefest.

C.A. Larmer (calarmer) Loving No Mercy: True Stories of Disaster, Survival and Brutality by Aussie authors Learmonth and Tabakoff, although I'm not enjoying it exactly. It's a really horrifying look at how some humans behave when disaster strikes. Murder, rape, cannibalism ... No Mercy: True Stories of Disaster, Survival and Brutality

Isn't it funny how sometimes our reading follows themes - even if you don't realise it when you're choosing books. I kept mentioning some of the books I'd read recently as they related to topics that came up in a conversation with someone, and I only realised as I gave a brief rundown of the different books that they were all about people dying of cancer - it seemed a bit morbid when ennumerated like that!
