Does that mean it's not good Phrynne? It's really popular at work. Selling quite well, although I haven't had any feedback on it yet.

Glad you're enjoying it Elaine - you're brave to take on such a big one when it's so busy!!

I kind of had to Brenda, cause my reserve came through from the library and I only had a short time to read it as there are so many reserves on it. Fortunately though I managed to get my own copy but now I'm hooked so I have to keep reading!!

I know the feeling with the library books! That's why I'm reading A Fortunate Life by Albert B. Facey:) Lucky it ties in with Summer challenge:)

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 1732 comments I'm reading A Fever in the Heart and Other True Cases by Ann Rule. Shocking but fascinating true case of obsession that reads like fiction. Imagine if after your friend's wife kicked him out, you gave him a place to stay and he repaid you by stealing your wife. She soon realises her mistake and returns to her husband. And it only goes downhill from there...

It isn't really bad and I have finished it. It's just way too long. The story is good but only occupies about 50% of the book. The other 50% is in my opinion self indulgent waffle on the part of the author. It needs an editor with a red pen and a strong arm. I think it is probably selling well to people like me who have read all of her previous books and are hoping for a good one. This isn't it for me!!!

message 6758: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I finished Corduroy Mansions by Alexander McCall Smith and while it was OK, with faint echoes of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, it wasn't anywhere near as good. Too much unresolved, to my way of thinking. Maybe the unresolved issues will be addressed in the next book, but I don't think I care enough to find out!

I'm now reading Mr. Churchill's Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal and am enjoying it so far. Did anyone watch the Bletchley Circle miniseries on the ABC earlier this year about a group of women who worked at Bletchley Park during WWII cracking German code? I think this book sounds similar.

Neko Yesterday I finished reading Do Tampons Take Your Virginity?: A Catholic Girl's Memoir and I rather enjoyed it.

I'm now going back to a book I started in 2012 but I never properly finished it..Silent in the Grave but since so much time has been since I started it I've very little memory of the storyline..I read through chapter 17 completely confused.

That's a shame Phrynne. I won't be telling our customers that though, although sometimes I do want to say "Don't waste your money" but I would never do that. Plus everyone is different aren't they? Someone else might really love it.

Loved your review Michael. I'm only a third of the way in but can really relate to everything you said about this book. It definitely is a massive read but worth it, I think. Great review.

finished The Greyfriar as part of the summer challenge that I have been neglecting.

It was great, I really liked it. Recommend it for anyone that likes steampunk paranormal, political issues, robin hood like characters and a little bit of love

I've found the last few Scarpetta books to be like this, really good if you could just remove the self-indulgent waffle. As you said, an editor with a red pen needed. I will only read these now if I come across them cheap.....

Maggie O'Farrell is a fave author of mine too.. and
The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox is my favourite of hers. Must put Heatwave on the Kindle for my Oz trip! You'd think I was coming for a year, all the books that are going on the Kindle!

Wilmar Luna (wilmarluna) I'm trying to read Game of Thrones, but it's taking me FOREVER.

I thought I had made progress, when I saw that I was on page 362 of the 1st book.

Little did I know that I was reading an 800 page behemoth, and that was just the 1st book! I'm hoping to get Wool for Christmas, and maybe I'll burn through that one in a few weeks.

Surprisingly it’s been a delightful book. I’ve had a few laughs with Poirot, he’s definitely amusing character to read. This is my 2nd AC book but my first Poirot & I have no hesitation to read more of him.

Same here, I’m getting towards the end and I can’t wait to find out
