B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I'm reading The Street Sweeper by Elliot Perlman: I've just found the site for David Boder (Dr Border in book) and listened to his actual recording interviewing a 22yo Jewish woman who was liberated from Auschwicz.

Chilling! I feel sick to my stomach.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Just finished This Is the Way the World Ends, was very interesting. Now onto Paper Towns.

Oh Bette, that would be difficult to listen too. I never heard of David Boder before I read the book.

I just added The Golem and the Jinni to my TBR, but has anyone noticed that 'jinni' is spelled with a D ('djinni') in the book description on GR? And the description uses an ampersand (&) instead of 'and' at one point, which is not very professional and makes me wonder about the book itself. Sorry, the proofreader in me couldn't help but notice, LOL. I still like the sound of the book and all the good reviews it's received on here, so will certainly still give it a go.

It's not the fault of the book Sally...I fixed it for you;)

Just starting Wintergirls Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson a story about teen anorexia / self harm. Far from my usual read but very compelling I don't want to put it down. You can't tell by this pic but the cover is stunning - haunting but stunning.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I have finished The Street Sweeper by Elliot Perlman. Thanks Michael for your recommendation 5★

Alik I have borrowed The Golem and the Djinni from my local library and it is definitely with a 'D'! Perhaps there are two versions?

If you go to Amazon the book is spelled jinni and the kindle edition is djinni. Yet your book has it as djinni. What fun! I wonder if different editions are spelled differently.

I am half way through The Luminaries and it is SO good. I did not realise it was a mystery before I started it - a historical mystery and brilliant!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird)

My current to-read pile. May be getting out of hand just a touch.

That's good to hear, I have this and also The Goldfinch but I'm saving them for the new year - I think that with all the Christmas stuff going on, I won't give them my full attention.
So I've decided on some light reading for the next 2 weeks.
I just finished The Light in the Ruins which I enjoyed but now on to the lighter reading and first up is Eleanor & Park.
I'm not usually a fan of YA but so many people rave about this one & a friend leant it to me, so I'm giving it a go.

That's one of the advantages of a Kindle library. You can't see the piles of books. :)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Really enjoying The Irresistible Inheritance Of Wilberforce by Paul Torday 2nd book by Paul Torday, author of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen by Paul Torday , just as good, I would say, and mentions of at least one character from Salmon Fishing, and, when I look ahead to his later books, characters from at least 2 of those. Quite like the connections.....

Still on a YA kick but disappointed with Ruby Red trilogy and midway through the second book Sapphire Blue it's not getting any better. Premise is good but overall a letdown. Only reading second book as I'd already bought it.

Ruby Red (Precious Stone Trilogy, #1) by Kerstin Gier Sapphire Blue (The Ruby Red, #2) by Kerstin Gier

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Just finished The Irresistible Inheritance Of Wilberforce by Paul Torday which I really enjoyed, but this post is actually about hubby who reads very little besides newspapers. After I finished Confederates in the Attic Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War by Tony Horwitz he said, on the strength of some comments I made whilst reading it, "I might like to have a look at that one...." He's up to p 146!!!!! I'm stunned. Keeps repeating bits back to me etc pick up my jaw off the floor!

Wow that's wonderful Marianne! My husband also wasn't a reader (only newspapers) and now that he's retired he's reading quite a lot. He only reads non-fiction at the moment (has read all of Peter FitzSimons so far!) but I hope he'll have a go at fiction one day. It's great isn't it!

I am happy my husband reads almost as much fiction as I do and we share a number of authors especially in crime, mystery and science fiction. We have very quiet evenings in my house with occasional comments on our respective books!!!

It took me actually writing a book for my husband to take up reading! He's now read it twice, and another couple of books by other new authors. The things we have to do...

Very true, Brenda, but a rather nice outcome! Hopefully he'll get the reading bug well and truly now. We both love the same kinds of movies and TV programs, so I don't think it's that far of a jump to books :)
