The topic of hate crimes and murders really upsets me, so I try to avoid them and related genres (mystery, thriller, true crime, etc.). For that reason, I was really anxious about reading this book, even though I knew it'd be good for me. Having read it, I feel dumb--the book wasn't THAT scary...and it wasn't well-written enough to really even make me upset. I'm still nervous to read more books about Matthew Shepard, though, since they'll make me feel sick about humanity.
