Jill H. (bucs1960) So glad you joined us Marcy. And we do indeed need to use the past as a mirror for the present. Please browse the threads and find topics that are of interest to you.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Cody Endres | 3 comments Hello Everyone.

My name is Cody, I'm 28, and live in the United States (Wisconsin). I graduated college with a degree in Psychology and I'm currently working full-time as a youth counselor at a group home for troubled teens. I've always been sort of a history buff and I've been wanting to participate in book clubs for a long time, so this group seemed perfect! I just picked up The Last Days of the Incas from my local library the other day and I'm looking forward to catching up with the rest of the group.

Welcome, Cody, we're glad you found us.

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

Bruno Menezes Hi, my name is Bruno Menezes, from Brazil.
Since a young age, probably before my tens, I became interested in history. The Black Death, World War II, Vietnam, and other topics made a great impression on me.
However, I rarely read any book of any history account, relying only on what I heard from others, wich makes me a bit uneducated in this question, being now 20 years old.
I hope I can be helped by this group in the quest for culture, and eventually help the group myself. That's all.

Check out post 3824 from Bryan and please READ the links. Please do not in the future set up folders or threads - these are immediately deleted.

Additionally, Kathy sent you a Welcome letter which also had this information and all of the links with the rules and guidelines in them and they seemed to have been ignored a second time. I have also sent you a warning via PM.

We are vehemently against spam on this site and your thread was clutter. We already have threads where you can request suggestions and recommendations. Can you imagine with a group of 9000 what the site would like if everybody set up their own threads and folders when they were looking for a recommendation. That is why we have these rules and guidelines because we do not allow spam.

Martin King | 1 comments Hello, my name is Martin Bruce King. While I read a wide variety of books, I find myself reading a lot of books I should have actually read in high school or during my undergraduate college days. Whatever I read, fiction or nonfiction, I usually approach the work, and the author, from a historical perspective. I always have one actual history book in my “currently reading pile.” While I read most types of history I have I have both a personal and academic interest in late twentieth century intellectual, environmental (political economy of) and economic (heterodox) history.

Tim (tjhavenith) Hi,

I've been on Good Reads for a while, but only recently began to use it.

I'm from North Lincolnshire, England, but only began to get into history around the time I moved to Wiltshire. I've watched many documentaries about history, but really want to start reading more books about the history of England. I'm currently re-reading The Seven Ages of Britain, which was written in conjunction with a Channel 4 documentary a few years back. It was the first history book I read of my own accord - and while it's quite basic, it did begin to teach me a lot about how things developed in Britain.

I've been looking around and have seen some interesting books on English history, but I'd still really appreciate any recommendations.

This looks like a great group. I look forward to adding to the discussions as I learn my way around here!

Best wishes,
Tim

Jill H. (bucs1960) We are glad you found us, Pamela. You seem to have a wide range of favorite history topics so please browse our threads to find your areas of interest. There is a lot to see.

Berlin Diary The Journal of a Foreign Correspondent 1934-41 by William L. Shirer by William L. Shirer William L. Shirer

Timothy | 1 comments Hello! I currently live in Virginia, a state that has a lot of history. My educational background does not include much history, but I really enjoy reading about our collective past. I guess the aspect about history I enjoy most is discovering what events from the past formed and shaped our current society. My historical interests lie in several areas such American History, Modern European history, ancient history, and several other areas.

I'm looking forward to reading some of the selections the moderators and members post for discussions. Perhaps I'll expand my interests into areas i have not considered.
