Bryan Craig Welcome, Amylou. Glad you could join us.

Please browse around and see some great finds.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

The Passage of Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson, #4) by Robert A. Caro by Robert A. Caro Robert A. Caro

Annie Hello!
I'm Annie and I'm from Pennsylvania. I'm a student looking to expand my knowledge of history after I finish final exams in about a week, and am really looking for good book recomendations and discussion. I'm especially interested in ancient history, as well as brushing up on some European history in preperation for a class I'm set to take next year. Happy to be joining the group!

Nathaniel (nathaniel928) | 2 comments Hi my name is Nathaniel and I live in NJ. I am a substitute teacher about to complete my masters degree in education to teach history and ESL. My main interests are world history; particularly that of pre-columbian Latin America and ancient/medieval Europe. I also enjoy studying Irish history and that of immigration. My bachelors degree is in history with a world focus. My weak area is that of US history so I've been reading some books related to that. I do enjoy Native American history though and that of their religious practices. One book I am currently reading is that of "Master of the Mountain: Thomas Jefferson and His Slaves".

Shannon (definethelimit) Hi everyone! My name is Shannon and I'm a student in Pennsylvania. I love learning about history but in school it can sometimes seem a little dull, especially if the teacher is monotonous. However, when I'm on my own researching, I absolutely love everything about it. I really enjoy the history of Greece and Rome and their culture. I also love learning about World War I and World War II. In the future, I aim to do something in the art or literature field, but also have history woven into it too. It's great to be a part of this group and hope to learn more through it!

Pierre Pharand | 1 comments Hello,

My name is Pierre and I am writing you from Canada's capital: Ottawa. I am Franco-Ontarian, which is to say that my first language is French and that I was born and raised in Ontario. I am an avid reader of history books and was a major in the subject so I would consider myself a bit of a nerd.

That being said, I do read fairly slowly but I attribute that to my want to absorb every detail of what I am reading.

My reading preferences are pretty diverse but I like European history and that of the Americas, including Canada and the United States. I've taken a particular interest in British, French, Russian and German history. However, despite my being French-Canadian, I am a staunch monarchist so I do tend to fancy biographies of monarchs, as well.

Good reading!
Pierre

Amos Vos Hi to all,

I let Isaac Bashevis Singer explain what 'History' means to me:
"The past is not lost. An image from years ago remained present somewhere in the fourth dimension and it reached you just in that moment."
The Cafetaria in 'The Last Demon', Penguin Classics, 2011

and at the same "time" I agree with W. G. Sebald:
"…, or more precisely I shall find that all moments of time have co-existed simultaneously, in which case none of what history tells us would be true, past events have not yet occured but are waiting to do so at the moment we think of them,..."(p. 144)

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books you mention should look:

Ben Brunson | 1 comments Hello All!

I am Ben Brunson and I am happy to be in the group. I have been an avid reader of history since I was 10 years old. My love of history, especially the history of the 20th Century, has been an important part of my life.

History is my avocation. Finance and economics are my professional training. I have a degree in Economics from Northwestern University and a MBA from the University of Chicago.

I am the proud father of three grown children (so far, so good) and still an active lacrosse player at the age of 52. In my youth I was a drummer. I would love to say that I am still good, but the reality is that I have lost the battle to rust when it comes to my chops (all you drummers out there know what I mean!).

I love reasoned and logical discussion, so I will try to jump in and contribute a little when passion dictates.

My best to all of the group.

Ben

Kristie Webber | 5 comments Hello! My name is Kristie and I'm a resident of Gainesville, Florida (Go Gators!). I have a love for history that was birthed from visiting historical sites on family road trips (who doesn't want to take a biking tour of Gettysburg for their family reunion?!), and multiple relatives reenacting battles. I look forward to participating in the book studies and I'm already enjoying Hanns & Rudolph!

Kristie Webber | 5 comments I definitely didn't mean to spell Rudolf that way, my apologies.
