Welcome Shannon and Heather, we are glad to have you as a member. As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post . Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

Hello folks,I've been a big fan of historical fiction and alternate history for the past 15 years and am delighted to have found this group. Some of my favorite authors include James Clavell, Harry Turtledove and S.M. Stirling.
I currently live in Southern California and work in the IT field. I love history because I'm fascinated by the interesting lives and stories of those who came before us.
I look forward to interacting with you all.
Thanks,
Phillip

Growing up as a child sitting on the floor in front of my Granddaddy's easy chair was one of the most cherished memories I'll be able to keep. He would tell me stories of his experiences in life, about his family, the places he had seen or been to, but what I'll remember most are the experiences he shared of the War. He served as a Company Commander in Patton's Third Army, 4th Armored Division, 35th Tank Battalion serving mostly in Czechoslovakia near the end of the war. He had both good experiences, things he really cherished from his time in the service, but he also saw the horrible and witnessed some truly terrible things including the atrocities of the Nazi's.
Now as an adult, having that part of my life I'm now a huge fan of history, in particular, military history. I'm especially interested in the Second Battle of the Atlantic.
So, that's a bit of who I am and why I love history.
I have commented a few time on various threads, so I should probably say HelloMy interest in history goes way back - I probably get it from my mother who alway had a history book of somekind laying around.
My primary historical interests are English Mediveal and military history, though I do wander a bit from those topics from time to time.
Some good book recommendations here.
Hello,Currently I am an academic librarian and archivist. I left teaching over ten years ago but did not want to leave education entirely. I had been a High School English and Social Studies teacher. Basically, I've always been a humanities geek.
Hi I am Shawn - I have a doctorate in international business and a real love for the developing world and countries coming out of conflict. I have spent a significant amount of time in these countries/areas and am always reading to learn more. I believe history plays a major part in culture and the decisions people and countries make so I read a lot of history.
Hi! My name is Amanda & I'm pretty new to Goodreads. I enjoy a variety of genres (including, of course, history), and I really look forward to discovering some great books & discussing them with some great people! :)
Thought I had done this - but I should know better than to trust my brain! I'm Tomi, a retired history/English teacher in Arkansas. I've always loved to read and retirement allows me to do a lot of it. I just love history of all kinds. It's neat to see the relationships between people of different countries and different eras. I must have done something right, because two of my four daughters are history majors in college. Right now, I am reading a lot of Civil War and WWII history - but I'm sure I will get off on another tangent soon.
My name is Lindsay and I am from Nashville. I was history major in college but read more history now then when I was in school. My current interest is British royalty.
I've been a member for a while now, and I'm guilty of not posting an intro. So, here goes.I'm a late bloomer to history, having not really started to love reading about the past until after finishing my undergraduate degree.
My personal preference is political figures, leaders and social realities. I have a reference on my bucket list about history - I will read at least one book on every American president before I die.
Hello everyone. My name is Florence and I am a retired pharmacist. My husband and I are avid readers of history, especially U.S. history from the Great Depression through World War II. We once did a 10 year history project from 1989-1998 where each year we went back 50 years and read extensively about that year, even photocopying magazines from that year. It was fun and very interesting. I am looking forward to many interesting books and discussions.
Hi my name is norah . Im from kuwait, im 21 and despite my young age I have always found interest in history maybe because it makes the present clearer specially in politics and the economy...true what they say history repeats itself. Anways im looking forward to gaining knowledge! Feel free to add me
Hello there. I'm Joakim from Canada and I'm very pleased to be a part of this group. I'm very interested in medical and military history and looking forward to picking up some suggestions from the community here.Cheers.
Hi, my name is Martin. I'm from Bulgaria and i'm an absolute newbie. I'm 22. History at school was horrble and i absolutely hated it, only to fall in love in it now. I study managment in the Plovdiv university and in my free time i like to read classical literature. Please, feel free to give me some pointers on how to introduce myself to the subject. Glad to be a part from this wonderful community.

Hello,My name is Blaine Pardoe. I am an ardent reader of military history and true crime books. Currently I'm reading three books in preparation for a research trip to Scotland next month.

Hi My name is Kathy,I am an avid reader of almost anything, though the recent surge in YA confuses me as I do not understand why someone would voluntarily read a book that insults one's intelligence.
Hi. I love history and enjoy reading various types of historical books. Fiction is great but non-fiction works too. I enjoy books unrelated to history too. Thanks for listening! Donna
I got a message about introducing myself. Not sure if that was meant for me or just a reminder for everyone, but I will re-post my introduction from a few months ago just in case I need to:Hello, my name is Aaron. I am 28 years old and am currently working on my masters degree. I aspire to teach social studies in high school and love reading history covering a wide variety of topics. While I am most interested in political and social history, there is no topic or category that I dislike. I have just discovered the goodreads site today and am hoping to learn a lot from this group. I also look forward to exploring the activities and discussions which this group offers and participating as time allows.
Hi, I'm Miriam and reading through the introductions I'm very impressed with the global community found here. I'm sure this will be a very interesting venue for discussing historical events! I read a little bit of everything, but I'm most interested in biography (I love stumbling upon those quirky, little known stories about real people), and ancient history. My first college degree was in cultural anthropology, my second was in nursing. Looking forward to getting to know the members here and the books they love!
Hello! My name is Trisha. I work in the human services field, but I have always had a love of history. My main areas of interest are American history and European history. I look forward to reading and sharing with the group.
I remember being thrilled to start fourth grade because we had History class. My love for the subject has never waned. I specialize in the Eastern Question or "The Detritus of the Ottoman Empire." The American Revolution and the early federal period are still my favorites of my home country. I look forward to the discussions.
