Bryan Craig Welcome, Magdy. Glad you could join us.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

The Passage of Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson, #4) by Robert A. Caro by Robert A. Caro Robert A. Caro

Take a few moments to read the orientation:

Enjoy.

Maria Strayer | 1 comments Hi! My name is Maria. I grew up watching History Channel with my father and helping my mom with genealogy research so my passion for history began many years ago and now I am working towards my M.A. in History. Currently I am working on a research project on American culture and society during the Philippine American War (how culture affected the attitude towards war and imperialism). However, I also do quite a bit of reading outside my graduate work. I especially enjoy reading about WWI, WWII, Modern Russian History, Modern Chinese History and Middle Eastern History.

I'm so glad to see such a variety of history lovers on this page! Hope to find some good recommendations for future reading!

I've read some history lately, particularly Guns, Germs, and Steel The Fates of Human Societies by Jared Diamond and Civilization The West and the Rest by Niall Ferguson . As a student, the things I find most fascinating are the stories that explain why a certain thing is the way it is. No study in any field would be complete or even adequate without delving into the history of it. Looking forward to good discussions.

Welcome, Jing. What a great proverb! We don't have an English literature section, but here's our section on China -

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

Hi. Sorry for the delay.

This is the Augustus book I read: Augustus The Life of Rome's First Emperor by Anthony Everitt Anthony Everitt

We're so accustomed to thinking of so many of the Roman emperors as the epitome of evil that it was refreshing to see how much he did for the long term good of Rome. Of course choosing Tiberius as his successor wasn't the best thing he could have done, but even emperors aren't perfect. And it was a different perspective on his death than I was familiar with - that he wasn't murdered so much as assisted in suicide, sort of.

Ctgt | 13 comments My love of history began in college with a basic Western Civilizations class that was an undergraduate requirement. The professor really challenged some of my preconceived ideas about the world. Most of my history reading centers on WWII and The American Civil War, although I have dabbled elswhere. Frankly, I probably only read 3 or 4 history books a year as I spend most of my time reading all types of fiction.

I saw that the club was reading

An Army at Dawn The War in North Africa, 1942-1943 by Rick Atkinson by Rick Atkinson Rick Atkinson which is one of my favorite books and thought I would join in the fun.

Letitia | 1 comments Hello! My name is Letitia and I have been a history buff since high school when the Reagan sisters (my history teachers) had me convinced they had lived every moment in history. They didn't ever have to refer to the book, as history was in their very being. I am 59 and a retired educator of 35 yrs. I am married to a non-history buff who gladly takes pictures of everything I point to when we're exploring. We live in central Arkansas. For several years I've been wrapped up in Pre-Revolutionary War through the Civil War. Just finished reading 1858 Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant and the War They Failed to See by Bruce Chadwick by Bruce Chadwick . (Bruce Chadwick) I'm really looking forward to expanding my range of topics by hearing about great books from other members.

Great job on the citation. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. My name is Fei, I am now a graduate students from University of Illinois. I became interested in history since middle school. Until now, I have read lots of books about Chinese and Japanese history, but my knowledge of western history is still very limited.
