Bryan Craig Welcome, Japneet. I'm happy that you decided to join us. Browse our topics and start talking.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Lazlo Ferran (lazloferran) | 1 comments Hi All

My named is Lazlo Ferran. love history; I couldn't study history at school so perhaps that's one of the reasons I now have a passion for it. Early (High) Medieval is one of my specialies. I first started to learn a lot about this period when I researched my family tree. It took ten years but I eventually located my earliest known ancestor - a Knight (Chevalier) in Languedoc, France in 1240. From here I studied books about the Cathars and French nobility and monasteries so that I can now write with some authority on this place and time.

My other historic speciality is World War II and particular air-force history. I have always been passionate about old aircraft and have a great
store of knowledge on the subject.

I would love to hear from any of you.
Yours
Lazlo

Moonlight I'm Moonlight. I have no particular area of interest in history so I guess I would say that I'm a generalist. I read history because I am curious as to why things are they way the are. I want to know who the people were who created, built or discovered such amazing things. Many members of my family are refugees. Reading history, not just from their own country, but that of other displaced people has helped me understand them better.

Lance Carney | 1 comments Hello. My name is Lance and I'm from West Virginia. I am a pharmacist by profession and up until my 40's a fiction junkie (particularly horror and Florida mysteries). A presidential badge collection that my parents gave me (which I have continued) and my son who moved from SpongeBob directly to the History Channel has fueled my interest in reading history. I have read a lot of presidential history as well as war history so far. I still supplement my reading with some fiction but as I age, um, ever so gracefully (not according to my wife), I get more and more excited to pick up a history related book!

Dave | 513 comments Hi. I'm Dave, and new to the group. I've been in Cincinnati since July 2010, moving here from a life among all the lakes in West Michigan (I miss lakes).

I looked at a few of the introductions and saw that many of you have a focus on one or two eras or genres of history that you know backward and forward. I guess you might say I'm more of an omnivore when it comes to reading history. I love all kinds.

I'm currently reading Paris 1919, and not too long ago finished a biography of emperor Augustus. Late 19th and early 20th century history is always fascinating because we can see how we wound up with the world we have.

Other than history, I fill in with other non-fiction, especially science, and science fiction, a few mystery and suspense writers and literature I should have read in high School and college. I think I'll enjoy your 50 book challenge in 2014.

I suspect that some of your discussions will be over my head, but looking forward to them anyway.

Katy (kathy_h) Welcome, Dave from Cincinnati (and the lakes). Glad you could join us. We are happy to have an omnivore of history. Thats a neat way to introduce yourself.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how the book you mentioned should look:

Paris 1919 Six Months That Changed the World by Margaret MacMillan by Margaret MacMillan (no photo)

I'm not sure what book you read about Augustus, but I'd love to know and also hear what you thought about it.
