Bryan Craig Welcome, Kate. We have Asia topics, so please explore:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

The Passage of Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson, #4) by Robert A. Caro by Robert A. Caro Robert A. Caro

I am a retired District Nurse and read mostly Historical Fiction among other genres. However, one of the most recent books I've read and can thoroughly recommend is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
Rebecca Skloot
It is written by a journalist who had been researching the title person and the way her cervical cancer cells were used without consent. The human side of things is dealt with in a logical and sympathetic way whilst the scientific side is in easy to follow terms for the non-medically minded. It is what lead to the informed consent form we all know today, and have to sign before any invasive medical procedure.
I am thoroughly enjoying my retirement with time to do the things I enjoy, like reading and taking my dog for walks to try to stop the pounds from piling on the hips!!

Robert Kelly (robertmkelly) | 6 comments Welcome Ewa,

I agree with you. I find biographies very inspirational. One of my favorites is "Sing a Sad Song," about Hank Williams, also written by a man named Williams, though I have not found this available yet. Also, biographies of Charles Ives, the maverick composer, and Sammy Davis Jr. ("Yes I Can") and Malcolm X (with Alex Haley) stand out in my memory. There are so many!

Helga Cohen (hcohen) | 591 comments Hi my name is Helga Cohen and I live in Sc. I am a Chemist and love to read. I am an avid reader of World War II books as my father was a soldier at the Battle of the Bulge in Germany and liberator of Dachau concentration camp. And at 90 he is just now starting to talk about what it was like during this awful time. I am very interested in learning everything about it. I also like to read American History since the Revolutionary War and much more.
I am looking forward to learning alot from this group and getting some great book recommendations.
Helga

Welcome, Helga. You might like our American history folder:

Along with our WWII folder:

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

Battle Cry of Freedom The Civil War Era by James M. McPherson by James M. McPherson James M. McPherson

Thomas Moore | 1 comments Hello, my name is Tom Moore. I enjoy reading history from different perspectives. I find it fascinating that history has many opposing views depending on the views of the recorder. I am an American so I do enjoy American history, the civil war, etc. I also have an interest in Irish history. I joined this group to get more ideas for books to read.
