Bryan Craig Glad you found us Eric. I am a big fan of political history myself.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Robert Kelly (robertmkelly) | 6 comments Hello All,

Glad to be a part of this group. I live in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. I've had a 30-year career as a professional paperhanger and in that time have collected hundreds of books and articles on the delightfully large topic of wallpaper. That is my main historical interest, especially the social and economic aspects.

I'm also interested in the beginnings and subsequent history of the Roman Catholic church, but that's just one of many interests; I seem to be incurably curious about past times and the way it really was (as opposed to how things seem on the surface).

Looking forward to getting to know this group!

That would be history for me - so I was a history major. My husband and I have raised 2 kids and now have 4 granddaughters. Besides reading I am a hand quilter - keeping alive a dying tradition. I woud like to recommend to all Mysteries of the Middle Ages The Rise of Feminism, Science and Art from the Cults of Catholic Europe by Thomas Cahill by Thomas Cahill

This book really gets into the topics of why the Middle Ages are not quite so dark as we have been led to believe. Cahill tells compelling stories, and most of all, deeply human ones that are easy for the most up-to-date person to relate to. Highly recommended!

Shel Schipper (sraindog) I am Shelley. I work as a medical laboratory scientist in a small town in Northeastern Iowa. My friends often poke fun of my love of history saying that it is a dry boring topic. I always explain that history is so fascinating because it is the story of us. Sadly, their experience is that of poor high school instructors who forced them to memorize dates and unconnected names. Instead, I explain that history is the ultimate soap opera; full of passion, lies and double-crossing, love and courage, power struggles, and intrigue. This is my first book club, and I look forward to the challenge and discussion about a topic I find so engaging, pertinent, amazing, and fun.

Hope this was a coherent enough introduction.

Jill H. (bucs1960) So glad you joined us, Katie. Your mother was a very brave woman and you should be proud. Here is a link where you will find information about the Korean War.

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

The Guns of August by Barbara W. Tuchman by Barbara W. Tuchman Barbara W. Tuchman

More information:

Please take a moment to read our guidelines:
