Jill H. (bucs1960) Welcome Rodger and Mar........this is the place for the history lover. Thank you for your quick response to our invitation to join us here on the Introduction thread. It's fun to meet new members and I know you will enjoy your membership here.

Linda Bennett (lkbennett) My name is Linda, and I live in Southern California.

My primary interest is genealogy/family history; and this research requires knowledge of history to find out why my ancestors did the things they did when they did them.

While my interest is mostly north American history, I am also drawn into European history. Lately, I have become especially interested in the history of France, but I also need to know more about the UK, Germany, and Russia. The more I learn, the more I want to learn; and I love the paths to which I'm being lead.

Jill H. (bucs1960) Hi Linda......isn't genealogy fun?.....we sometimes get surprises, both good and not so good!!!!

Lots to see and do here and Christopher gave you some good starting points but please browse all the threads for other areas that may catch your interest.

Any questions?......ask the moderators.

Heather (trixieplum) Hi All - I'm Heather. I live in New Jersey, very close to Philadelphia. I've always loved history, but have strayed away from it of late. I joined up here since I'd like to rekindle my interest, and I thought this would be a wonderful place to discover/share ideas!

message 1957: by Jill H. (new)

Jill H. (bucs1960) A warm welcome, Heather. Now that you have joined us, we will not let you stray from history for long!!! Lots to see and do here......browse the threads and you will find many topics that will pique your interest.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Alex Baxter | 1 comments Hi Everyone! My name is Alex. Entered college with a business major and loved history so much that I added a history major. My enthusiasm was amplified with my first trip to Europe in college for a history class, and then an independent study in London. Spend most of my reading time in books focused on European history covering periods between the 16th and 19th centuries.

S H A R O N (ishari) | 1 comments Hi, everyone! My name is Sharon and I am currently [not] using my undergraduate history degree as an administrative assistant with a non profit organization.

I am halfway done with my masters in Military History [with my preference being 20th century warfare] but am currently on hiatus from school while my husband pursues his graduate degree. I suffered from a little bit of book-burnout after a professor assigned 66+ books for a one semester class (not including the seminar paper and sources included for that) so I am just now getting back to a point where I am ready to dive into leisure history reading again...in fact, don't look at my "read" shelves as they will reflect the (slightly embarrassing?) genres of books I have been reading lately... ;)

Matthew Keough Hello,

My name is Matthew. I live outside of Washington D.C. in Bristow, VA. I am a graduate student at George Mason University and an adminstrative office assistant at the American Historical Association. I am trying to focus my studies on the United States in the late 19th century. I am interested in social, cultural, economic, racial and political history. My favorite part about history is to learn how ordinary people can be involved in events that change the world and also, on the other side, how major historical movements influence everyday people. I hope I can find people with whom I can share my love of history and maybe get some book recommendations too.

While my professional life is far removed, I am able to celebrate my love of history through books and travel.

I love to read about European history the most, but sometimes I get side tracked by other areas of the world. Recently I've been on a bit of a kick of reading about the women who shaped our world, like Eleanor of Aquitaine.

A large portion of my library is still in the States but it is making its way across the pond a few books at a time.

Bryan Craig Welcome, Christy. Thank you for your service. My Master's thesis had a naval history element, so welcome aboard.

This is how a book should look:

The Influence Of Sea Power Upon History, 1660 - 1783 by Alfred Thayer Mahan by Alfred Thayer Mahan Alfred Thayer Mahan
