Whitney | 55 comments Hello,

My name is Whitney. I was always interested in history growing up, and decided to do my B.A. in History. After moving to North Carolina I have found myself not discussing history as much as I used to, and hope that I will find some good discussions here.

I am open to learning about a variety of topics. My primary interest is where the lines between myth and history are blurred, so I read a lot about ancient and medieval history.

I also enjoy learning about women in history that accomplished things that seemed unlikely for them because of their culture, religion, or society.

I hope to learn more about my interests, and perhaps find some new topics to learn about from this group.

Bryan Craig Welcome, Whitney. Glad you could join us and feel free to look at our British Middle Ages topic.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

The Passage of Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson, #4) by Robert A. Caro by Robert A. Caro Robert A. Caro

Even if this is a delayed response to the email that Jill had sent to me I am happy to be part of this group.
I come from Chennai which is the capital of Tamil Nadu, a South Indian state. India is a beautiful country of vast culture and history. I have always been fascinated by history ever since my seventh grade teacher introduced me to medieval history. The spark is now a mini-fire.
I am sure that I will benefit greatly from being part of this group. I look forward to a fruitful time with all of you.
Besides that , I would like to read more Historic Fictiion and gain more insight on world affairs (not politics).

Doug Phillips (dougphillips) | 12 comments Hello fellow fans of history recent and past. My name is Doug and I work and live in Eugene, Oregon. I work in the field of restaurant marketing by day, and read as much history non-fiction and historical fiction as possible by night. I alternate between e-books (Kindle and Nook) and traditional (thank you Costco). I'm fortunate to have a great wife, and since I am not a fan of shopping, she will send me text messages with covers of possible books for sale. Less shopping and more reading, I say. My other reading interests range from biographies and humor, to religious studies, and of course, the Bible. I'm a huge fan of popular culture (more the study than the fandom of what J-Lo is wearing). Aside from reading, I am a self-described computer nerd, and I am a budding photographer.

Hi Tami - let me take out those segments that are considered self promotion for you or for other groups, blogs, etc. We do not mention other groups - we try not to advertise or promote or spam - and we are very conscientious about those things.

Tami wrote:

Hello! My name is Tami and I currently live in Brooklyn, NY having returned from London, UK a few years ago. I have a Masters of Research in Social & Political Theory from the University of London and I am fascinated by history, politics and philosophy. With regards to history, I have been studying quite a bit about WW2-----as well as 19th & 20th century British History, US History and I have just started reading about the history of China.

The books that got me started on WW2 are Anthony Beevor's "Stalingrad" by Antony Beevor AND Vasily Grossman's "Life & Fate" by Vasily Grossman

Thank you for having me in your group!

This is how you would do citations for this group - you really did give it the old college try and did brilliant actually. We usually just type normally in the body of the text and add the citations at the bottom.

Welcome, we are glad to have you as a member.

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

Roosevelt's Centurions FDR & the Commanders He Led to Victory in World War II by Joseph E. Persico by Joseph E. Persico Joseph E. Persico

WyoLady 93 (wyolady93) Thank you so much for the welcome. I find history, American History and World History. I have a minor in History (but that was so so long ago!) I am looking through all the book recommendations in this list and don't know where to start!
