Welcome, John-Paul. We have a topic on Napoleon.Napoleonic Wars
There are also many other folders where you can discuss topics that interest you.
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.
When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Hi everybody, my name is Riccardo. I always had a great passion for history - my teenager dream was to become a historian. I could not fulfill this dream, but history has always been my main hobby and interest. I love in particular the early Rome period, the period of the Antonines, Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages, and WWII. But I love all history in general.
I am looking forward to sharing this passion for "everything history" with all of you. I am interested in history in particular from an academic/scholarly perspective.
Hello & welcome to Hannah Le, John-Paul, Christopher, and Ben! Great to have you here, and I'm looking forward to many future discussions with you.

Hello everyone,My name is Matthijs, i'm from The Netherlands and i'm currently working as a teacher in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
I'm interested in history books about former leaders and empires. Questions that keep my mind busy on a daily basis are, "How did some of the world's best and worst leaders come to power? Why did so many people support them and what did they do with that given power?". History books help me with putting the pieces together.
I hope to find like-minded people within this group.
Kind regards,
Matthijs
Welcome, Matthijs.....your questions is a good one and I think one that we often wonder about. Reading history is the way to help us answer it. Hi,I'm American-born, but raised both in the Midwest and the Middle East and Aisa, and now based in the UK with a (very) British husband and two daughters. I particularly love reading about historical encounters between Western and non-Western cultures. I am fascinated by the history of Europeans in South Asia and the Middle East...Carla

My name is Josh and I am an English major and a History minor in my last year at college. I am a U.S. History buff and am especially fascinated with U.S. Presidential history. I have be an enthusiast for any kind of information about the U.S. Presidents since I was seven and can name them in serving order in 26 seconds. I used to take out books about the individual presidents at the library in addition to buy books about them wherever they had them. I am now doing my best to expand my horizons and every so often, when I am not reading a novel or work of literature, I like to read about history. Among the major academic subjects (Math, Science, English, and History), English and History are by far my favorites!
Some of my favorites include:
by Candice Millard
by William DeGregorio
by Victoria Sherrow (a favorite when I was younger)In this category, it would take me too long to conduct a "to be read" segment! :)
Thank you for your welcoming message! It means a lot to value all of your members. I will do my best to be as active as I can!
Hello! My name is Diana, I am from Payson, Utah. I work part time teaching a high school bagpipe band and full time raising two kids. I usually read science fiction or classics but I really want to broaden my reading so I thought this would be a good place.

Hi. I am a new group member from Chicago, USA. I joined this section of Goodreads to get some tips on good books. I study European history and politics from 800 - current year; US history and politics from discovery to current year; and history of science. Big fan of Sir Isaac Newton.

Hi my name is Monique and I am from Brisbane, Australia. I am currently living in Tete, Mozambique and I have not read many non-fiction history books. I am hoping to change that though and gain a greater understanding of key historical events.
Hi, my name is Will. I have lived all over the U.S., currently in Illinois. I majored in History in college with an emphasis on European and Medieval History. I am looking to expand my horizons, particularly in Asian, African and Middle Eastern histories.
Hello EveryoneMy name is Mary. I live in England, and have a Masters degree in History. I am a retired Librarian, and am enjoying family history, especially tracing an ancestor of my children who fought at the battle of Waterloo. I live in Thanet, on the south-eastern corner of England. Moved here last year, and am discovering the history of this beautiful area.
A warm welcome, Monique. This is the place to begin if you are expanding your reading horizons to include history. You might want to start with our Home Page and finds those topics that are of interest to you.Home Page

Focus Areas
There are many folders where you can discuss topics that interest you.
This is how books should look:
