Hello, my name is Zac. Obviously I love history, or why else would I join this group. I live in Texas and I'm working on a BA in History, despite everyone's advice that I should get a useful degree.
Hello everyone, I’m Lovelle… I owed my interest in History to my teacher in High School. Because of him, over half of the books I own are history-related. Mostly about World War II & Holocaust, Politics, International and Cultural Studies, Memoir or Biography. Thanks for letting me join your group and I look forward to seeing great book suggestions from all of you.
Feel at home, Zac! It's very nice to study what we really like. We hope you enjoy the group and our discussions about history and a variety of other topics. As you are so interested in the history of the USA and Latin America , we would like to recommend our Ancient History and History of Latin America folders:American History
History of Latin America

Check out our folders as well if you want to search for any specific topic and discuss it with our fellow members. Feel free to contact any one of our assisting moderators for any assistance you might need. We are all here to help.
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.
When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Welcome Zac and Lovelle. We're glad you have joined us here at the History Book Club. There is lots going on and some great discussions going on, so jump right in. Looking forward to reading your posts.
Welcome Zac and Lovelle. Zac: don't listen to folks, a history degree gives you great writing and thinking skills that translate to any job.
A warm welcome Zac, and Lovelle....you are among history lovers here and we look forward to discussing books with you all. If you have questions, please ask any moderator.
My name is Jeremy. I am mid-30s and have a background in aeronautics and financial services. I have interest in all sorts of history but especially appreciate US history and memoirs of extraordinary people and events that have shaped what happens next. I am fanatical about sports, sports legacy and historical events in sport. Thanks for including me in the group.
Hi I'm Jared. I'm an attorney from NJ. My focus is in Roman History (preferably late Republic stuff) But I'm also interested in all the Ancient history I can find.
Hello, I am Deborah. I am in New Zealand, though English by trade....I firmly believe that we should look to history to teach us about our decisions today and in the future - there is nothing new under the sun! Also - who would not be fascinated by social history and the gossipy nature of many of the memoirs that survive for us? I am more fascinated by older and Ancient history than modern - I guess because it demands more of my imagination to apprehend what it would have been like to live it. Luckily, Auckland Libraries are not at all bad, so I can order lots of interesting books - NZ is often a bit of a poor relation in terms of facilities.Anyway, greetings, one and all *takes bow and sits down hurriedly*
Welcome, Jared. We have a Roman History section for you to browse:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Hello and welcome, Sina. Best wishes with your career in dentistry. Teri has given you great tips to get started, so enjoy the History Book Club!!!
Hi welcome all. So glad that you joined our group. A special hello to Jeremy, Jared, Deborah, and Sina.
Hi, my name is Janet and I live in Maine. I am the director of a small town library, so my reason for joining this group is not just that I enjoy historical books, (although I do),but I am always looking for good ideas for new books to purchase for our library, and good books to recommend to our book groups.
Hi everyone! My name is Elin and I currently live in the mountains of western Pennsylvania. I studied history as an undergrad and I'm currently working on my master's in library science. (Fingers crossed, I graduate this summer!)
Although I prefer American history, specifically local to me history and that of the American west, I can read just about anything. Currently I'm reading a lot of children's literature as I have a class on the genre. But even most of those that I'm finding are historical in nature.
I look forward to communicating with you all and great book recommendations!
Elin
Howdy, I am Diamond Cowboy. I come from Montana of the United States but currently live in PA of the same country. I have travled extensively and I love to learn about the places I am visiting. The travel experience is so much richer when you have a grasp on the historical cultural background. This group looks like a lot of fun and I thank you for the kind welcome.
Be Blessed.
Diamond

Thank you for the warm welcome Kathy, Teri, Bryan, and Jill. Thanks to José Luís Pinto as well. I greatly appreciate the link you provided to the folder on Latin American History. As I haven't used this site much for anything else but keeping up with books read, I find the layout a little cantankerous so the link is certainly helpful. And the "to read" list grows ever longer...
Unfortunately my studies are dictating what I read at the moment (not that I'm complaining, I chose this after all) so partaking in any group selection/discussion will likely be impossible until the end of the semester. Good to be here, nonetheless.
Cheers!
Hello, I am Tk. I'm a stay-at-home-mom in the United States. My children are old enough that I can focus once again on reading books for adults, although I still read to the kids a lot as well. I knew this day would come!
I have over time become more interested in history and and also become aware of my own lack of education on the topic. I am more interested in general books for now so I can have better context for more specific areas later.
Welcome, Diamond. I'm glad you get a chance to travel. We have a U.S. thread to get you going:

Welcome to all of the new faces here at the History Book Club! Elin, Diamond, TK, and Robert, you will all find some great reads, exciting discussions, and wonderful people. Looking forward to reading your posts.
Welcome to all the new members - Anca, both James, Zac, Lovelle, Jeremy, Deborah, Jared, Sina, Janet, Elin, Diamond, TK, and Robert. I know you'll have fun here.
Hi, my name is John and I have a B.A. in history. My special interest is in early American History, 18th and 19th century, with a focus on biographies (Such as "American Lion")
Hi all - I'm Ryan Phelps. I'm a city and regional planner from Indiana in the US. I've been interested in history for as long as I can remember but I've recently rediscovered my love for history when I stumbled onto Allan Eckert's 'Winning of America' series and David Talbot's 'Brothers' about the Kennedy Years. I just think that there is so much that we can learn from studying history to not only avoid repeating it, but to better understand the world around us. You can't determine where you want to go unless you first know where you are coming from. Anyway, I'm hoping that I can expand my history reading list and engage in some discussions, so that's why I joined this group. I'm really looking forward to being part of it.

Hi! I'm Krissy and obviously, I'm new. ;) I m from the UK but I'm currently travelling from Barcelona and the Philippines to study and be with my dad at the same time. I'm a law student and history facinates me. I've tried being a history major but my guts told me that I should walk towards law school because that's what I've always wanted. I love Europen History! Ancient Greece facinates me. And also, the English & British History where the stories of kings, queens, prince and princesses are always amazing! And also, the Spanish history and how they ruled some of the countries esp the Philippines for more than a hundred years. I love history as much as I love.my tea, my dog and my books. ;) ....

Hi, I'm Adrian from the U.K. Confession time - I have never been a great reader, mostly something I do while on holiday (that's a 'vacation' for those of you on the other side of the Pond), but I have recently decided I need to do more, a) because it is very relaxing (I have quite a stressful job in IT) and b) I like to learn things & educate myself, which is why I chose to join this group because I like things that are factual. I have read some fiction but that's not my preference. In terms of history I am quite interested in World War 2 and being British I'm also interested in the history of Britain, which of course we are very fortunate to have a lot of.
