Hello everyone, my name is Pedro Gonzalez. I am a Civil Engineer living in Miami, Florida. I am not trained in the social sciences so my interest when I read history is very basic, to learn about the past and understand our present. Probably because of my training in engineering and engineering economics, I am better persuaded by those that believe that events in history are driven by economics or better said, I am biased by that belief when I read history. Why do I confess a bias? I don't know, may be so someone can recommend a book to set me straight!

I am currently reading Goodwin's The Bully Pulpit. A friend here in the club has recommended The End of Power by Moises Naim; I have the sample book on my phone and have started reading the preface.

Hi history friends, my name is Anja and i´m from Denmark.
For the time being i read by which is a bit like history fantasy, but my shelves are full of European history - and i do mean to read all my history books.
It´s one of my favorite topics, especially ancient times.

Hi everyone - I'm especially interested in European history, 20th c. American political history and local history and cartography. I'm most knowledgeable about Irish history. My current interests are in the history of animals, canids for example: wolf introduction, the changes in laws that protect animals (like the ESA) and state and local ordinance histories about animals like coyotes, and then migration history about our connections with dogs, and even 20th century history about how the dog became an indoor, non-working family companion, when this was certainly not always the case. I'm also interested in environmental history and the changes in local rivers and estuaries.

Particular areas of interest are Russian history (Russians are an amazingly resilient people), Greek/Roman history, English history, and lately, I've gotten more into Egyptian history. Hi all, I've been on GoodReads for a while but just joined this group after I discovered the Military History discussion, which is a topic I've been getting into more lately.

I'm from the northeast US, but live and teach at a university in southwestern China. This last means I try to always be reading something on Chinese history and current affairs (currently I'm focusing on the South China Sea), but I'm also interesting in diplomatic/foreign policy history and legal history. I studied political science in college, so I tend to take that slant on things.

3 of the books I'm currently reading are Jonathan Spence's classic The Search for Modern China, and 2 on the South China Sea, one by that title, and the other Asia's Cauldron:
