Leea | 1437 comments You're going to love it!!! I cannot wait for you ladies to read it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I re-read it not long ago and loved it just as much the second time around. That's one of those books where you pick up extra things the second time you read it.

message 1103: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I need to reread it... such an emotional book.

30% into Newcomer, I hope this starts picking up.

message 1104: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Me too Leea. I am really struggling.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Jus out of curiosity, if I get a book rec from someone who isn't a GR friend, is there any way I can put that person in the "recommended by" section?

message 1106: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) HTKARS?

message 1107: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Ian I believe you can -- I have done it before I think.

Lori: How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo

message 1108: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Thank you, Regina! I have that book, because it sounded good when someone else mentioned it. I just couldn't place the acronym. Another TBR.

Enjoying Lingerie Wars (Invertary, book one) by Janet Elizabeth Henderson ... it's quirky, cute, and funny.

Finished This Is Who I Am (Masters of the Shadowlands, #7) by Cherise Sinclair last night - couldn't wait, even though it wasn't officially on my reading list yet. I'm not sorry. I may not be into BDSM and especially not sado-masochism, but there's so much more to this book than that. It's really about accepting yourself for who you are - admitting that even if your lifestyle or preferences don't fit the "norm", it's OK. What's normal anyway? There's a tender romance in this story. It's subject matter is a bit heavy, because the female lead (Linda) was captured by slavers; but it's lighter than many of the Club Shadowlands books in that it doesn't focus as much on the club and the activities in the club. There are more relationships and friendships going on.

You can type anything you want into the recommended by section. It doesn't have to be a GR member name.

Leea | 1437 comments I'm about 63% into Newcomer and it's picked up and I'm really starting to enjoy it! I hope to finish after dinner but we spent the day at the pool and we're all so tired. haha!

message 1111: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished To Kill A Warlock (Dulcie O'Neil, #1) by H.P. Mallory and I'll just say that I'm grateful that it was free.

Continuing on with Heart of a Lion by Hillary Fields . Seems promising so far!

message 1112: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I couldn't really get into Lingerie Wars but I think it's just the mood I'm in. So, I'm putting it down for now. I may pick it back up later. I've been searching all day for a book to read...I'm in a reading rut again.

Did you all see the blurb for book 2 of Angelfall? So exciting! http://www.susanee.com/blog/2013/05/a...

message 1113: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments thanks for sharing Kay -- I hadn't seen that. I want that book now.

message 1114: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited May 29, 2013 09:22PM) (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Yes... now please!! I'm about 75% done with Newcomer and hope to finish tomorrow. I have this feeling like Carr could have put book 1 & 2 into one book. Some parts are drawn out and others are classic Carr. Plus who's the Newcomer? Cooper?

I hope to read On Every Street (The Artists Trilogy, #0.5) by Karina Halle tomorrow.

message 1115: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I agree Leea. Completely. I love parts and skim huge chunks. It's as if she had no editor.

message 1116: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Yes! I want more Mac and Gina... those two deserve some time together. Right now it's a 2 star book...

message 1117: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I agree. And I am only finishing it bc it is a buddy read and it is carr. Will you read the next in the series? I might not.

There have been some 5 star scenes so far. But so much blah and nonsense.

message 1118: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I don't know... I think the next one might be about the new coach and i'm enjoying the young kids story lines the most. Frank and Ashley also Landon and Eve. haha!

Don't finish on my behalf. You know i'll understand so do what you gotta do.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I read the Blud (Wicked as They Come) and Iron Druid short stories in Carniepunk by Rachel Caine tonight and handed out my first 5 star rating in what feels like forever to the Blud short story. It was SO good with a crazy twist that reminded me of some of what my reaction was to the end of Wool, except better. I now realize that I have to go back and read the other short stories set in the Blud world if they're even close to being as good. Even though this story comes after book 2 (I think?), it could probably work as a great intro to the series itself because it packed a lot into a short amount of time and gave you a good taste of what the world of Sang was like.

The Iron Druid short was cute, but not a wow. It was worth the read though just for all of the great dialogue with Oberon. He's still all about the poodles and sausages, which I love.

message 1120: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I want to finish, it is just a struggle -- I am at 80%. I agree, I enjoying the storylines of the kids -- and I would love more on Ash's dad. I'll finish today and move on to On Every Street (The Artists Trilogy, #0.5) by Karina Halle Devil's Punch (Corine Solomon, #4) by Ann Aguirre

message 1121: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Finished The Newcomer and I feel like nothing really happened haha! This book was bad, I don't even know if i'll put my review on NG.

I'm excited to start On Every Street and read another book by Ms. Halle. I cant' wait!! This is a short one so I plan to finish it today.

message 1122: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL -- you said it perfectly. Bad -- but with some gems. Completely ruined the series for me, the first one I was lukewarm about -- but this was not great. She needs better beta readers.

message 1123: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Kay, it took me awhile to get into Lingerie Wars (Invertary, book one) by Janet Elizabeth Henderson , but I'm really liking it now - at 44%. Can't say I *love* the book, but it's got my interest. Lots of possibility - hope it stays that way.

Leea, I have a few other books on the docket before On Every Street (The Artists Trilogy, #0.5) by Karina Halle , but I hope to get to it before this weekend. We start Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy, #1) by Karina Halle June 1st, right?

Stacia, which Iron Druid short was it - was it Kaibab Unbound? Loved that one! I got that one and Clan Rathskellar with the first book Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne . Love Oberon!

Still making my way through The Iron Druid Chronicles and Troubleshooters, but my TBR shelf is backing up! Work deadlines are always crazy at the end of a software release cycle, but this one is murder! Glad that most of my fav shows have had their season finales. I finally feel caught up. But lately, at night after dinner, I just want to veg; I can't seem to read for very long. Hoping that goes away soon.

message 1124: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Has anyone read Angelfire (Dark Angel, #1) by Hanna Peach ? It's a free ebook right now on Amazon.com. It looks intriguing, but a free book's not worth the price if it's not any good....

message 1125: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Jumped the gun and read Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy, #1) by Karina Halle The more I think about it, the less I liked it. And I have a feeling I'm going to be in the minority on this one.

message 1126: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I may be joining you on this one -- I haven't started, but all the criticisms of it make it sound like something I wont' like.

message 1127: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments We like all opinions here - makes for a better group :) I can't wait to hear what you guys thing about Sins & Needles. I'm going to read the short first and start SN next week sometime.

I still cant' get over how bad Newcomer was... Not sure why i'm so let down. haha!

The end pissed me off, wrapped up too nice. You do get some good scenes with Ashleys dad. I like him, he just made some mistakes in the past.

message 1129: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Sins & Needles can be read at any time during the month of June.

I won't be able to start June 1st because we have a buddy read tomorrow that I'm pretty sure I'll already be late on... sorry guys, lol. I'll start either tomorrow night or Saturday morning. Then I have another buddy read on the 3rd. I'll probably read Sins & Needles after I finisht that one.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I had a little bit of time to read this morning and I'm a couple pages from finishing On Every Street (The Artists Trilogy, #0.5) by Karina Halle . It was just okay. I actually really liked Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy, #1) by Karina Halle but I think I'm more of a Camden girl than a Javier girl, so Javier's part of the story wasn't really for me.

Lori, it's a new Iron Druid short. The book is an anthology of newly released stories. This one takes place between books 4 and 5, which was kind of perfect because I still need to read book 5. It was funny and worth the read but I wasn't blown away because I'd just finished the short story from the Blud series which was damn near perfect, so the ID one sort of paled next to it. But you still can't go wrong with Oberon humor, either way. :)

message 1131: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Thanks, Stacia. I'm just gong into book #2, so I'll wait on that short. But Oberon humor makes my day!

message 1133: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I'm putting On Every Street aside to buddy read Cut & Run (Cut & Run #1) by Madeleine Urban with Wendy and I think Regina was going to join us... It's open for everyone :)

I've heard so many good things about this series so i'm excited to read it and i'm excited to be reading with my buddy Wendy!!

message 1134: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I'll join you later tonight. :)

message 1135: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

message 1136: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Anything is better than that! I am just glad I had a buddy to help me along the way, lol.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I am reading Unbeautifully (Undeniable, #2) by Madeline Sheehan .

message 1138: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments No kidding and at least we both thought it was bad. lol! That's always awkward when one person loves it and the other hates it.

It's going to be 93 here today, hitting the pool early, bringing my Kindle but I usually can't take my eyes off my boys so that never gets picked up anyways. haha! I just like having it at my finger tips.

I just got that... It's on the docket for next week. How is it so far, Angie?

message 1140: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Glad you are reading Cut & Run! Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I started reading On Every Street... not so sure about this one. I know this is all set up for the 1st book, so I'm trying to be patient. But I feel like it's pulling teeth to get to WHAT THIS STORY IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT! It's also feeling really dark and heavy to me... and right now, I've got so much going on, that I prefer light and funny. We'll see.

Finished Lingerie Wars - Lingerie Wars (Invertary, book one) by Janet Elizabeth Henderson - it dragged in several places. The pacing's not quite right; it could use a good story editor to tighten it up - keep the comedy, but shorten the time frame of the overall story to a month or something. I like the book and its characters. It's got potential!

message 1141: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Angie, I picked up those 2 books - Undeniable (Undeniable, #1) by Madeline Sheehan and Unbeautifully (Undeniable, #2) by Madeline Sheehan - because they look good and I saw a few posts on others reading them and liking them.

You must have liked the 1st book enough to give the 2nd a try... what do you think? I'm trying to decide where to place these books on my TBR list.

message 1142: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Lori, what did you rate Lingerie Wars? I don't know if I will pick it up again.

I think I will join you all on Cut & Run. I might start it tomorrow. Is there a thread to discuss?

I'm reading Neanderthal Seeks Human A Smart Romance (Knitting in the City, #1) by Penny Reid and it's just okay so far.

I really enjoyed the first book. I thought it was gritty. And I like this one even more. Let me know what you think, Lori! :)

message 1145: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I can't start until later this evening too, lol. I'm at 64% in Monstrumologist 2, The Curse of the Wendigo (The Monstrumologist, #2) by Rick Yancey . At my reading pace my Kindle is telling me that's 1hr and 49min left, lol! Sooo, this evening for sure!

(In case nobody's read the Monstrumologist series, it's AMAZING. Not romance, lol. It's historical horror. But so good!)

message 1146: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) This might not be the right place to put this blurb, so guide me...

But if you're going to the BBABB in New York City, Karina Halle will be there! Along with Madeline Sheehan, E.L. Montes, Claire Contreras, Gail McHugh and K.A. Linde. Looks like food & drink, too. Here's the link to get your tickets: http://bbabbinnycnightout.eventbrite....

Sure wish I lived closer to NYC or was planning a trip there in July! I'll be on vacay at the Utah Shakespearean Festival, or I might plan the trip.

message 1147: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Kay wrote: "Lori, what did you rate Lingerie Wars? I don't know if I will pick it up again..."

Kay, I gave it a 3.5 stars. It would have been higher, but the pacing was off - very slow in parts. If the story had been tighter, it would easily have been a 4 star+ book. When it got going, it was good; but even then, the pace would drop off from time to time.

Still reading Lingerie Wars which I'm enjoying but it's been hard to find time to sit down and read. I'm about to add The Newcomer to the pile. Hopefully I can get Lingerie Wars finished today and The Newcomer started tonight.

Fighting to Survive (As The World Dies, #2) by Rhiannon Frater Lingerie Wars (Invertary, book one) by Janet Elizabeth Henderson The Newcomer (Thunder Point #2) by Robyn Carr
