Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh Samantha the first three highlanders books are not great at all! So many people read those and don't want to go on, and I don't blame them. I promise the others are better. :D They also aren't linked in a larger story arc, KMM has said this also on her webisite. Books #4-7 are a cohesive story arc and they link in directly to the Fever story line. 4 is about Drustan, 5 is about Daegas, 6 is about Abioheal and Adam Black, 7 is about Cian. There are some cross overs in time with Cian and Fever. And then obviously all appear in most of these guys appear in Shadowfever. But of course I first read those about 5 years ago, so maybe my tastes would be different now. The sex scenes are hot in them. :)

Well, I was basing Christian's difference on how he was written in the first five Fever books. I found it unbelievable he (view spoiler) If that makes sense. I believe she completely fixed this in Burned. As to the MacKeltars, they were pretty absent in Iced and they weren't putting up a fight for Christian or concerned. Having read 4-7, I know that is unlikely given their characters. (view spoiler)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Really about Dani?! Did you see it in the earlier Fever books or just in Iced?

That makes me feel better somehow that it was a long time theory of hers. KMM did say in response to the Iced hate that she had a story to tell and if the readers were patient we would like how she was going to do it.

Not really in the earlier Fever books though when I think back her memory of (view spoiler)

Haha...Well she says she is telling the story her way. I'm sure it is the same as Burned. She is leading us somewhere and I'm going along with the journey that's for sure.

So I guess I need to get to those Highlander books :)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Interesting! I want to look back at clues about Dani.

Yes you do! But start at 4. :)

I too was Team Mac from page one of the series. I actually didn't mind Dani as the protag of ICED, it was, as you mentioned Regina, how she wrote especially Christian. I honestly would have been fine in Burned with either Mac or Dani as our MC. I love Mac so of course was excited to see her helming this but that's what also caused my disconnect. (view spoiler) Still processing that book.

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Well Once Upon a Rose (La Vie en Roses, #1) by Laura Florand did nothing for me. Yes, Florand brings her worlds to life with exquisite detail but the romance just dragged on and on. Also, I didn't buy he was thirty. He felt a lot younger to me. Man, I hope I'm not going to be a cranky reader until the final Anne Bishop Others book comes out because that's really all I want to read.

Angie, I have a lot of trouble with NA but really enjoyed The Understatement of the Year (The Ivy Years, #3) by Sarina Bowen and Last Will and Testament (Radleigh University, #1) by Dahlia Adler Have you read those?

message 7011: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments No, I haven't, but The Understatement of the Year is on my list. The other one looks good, too; I've added it. Thank you for the recommendations!

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'm reading Where the Red Fern Grows. It's pretty good. I'm also reading A Ghostly Undertaking by Tonya Kappes. It's my second book by this author...the last one was Splitsville and I really struggled, found it dull. This is much better (so far / fingers crossed).

A Ghostly Undertaking by Tonya Kappes Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments You are a trooper. Unless I know there is a big pay off coming I can't push through a book or series that doesn't do it for me.

I finished the graphic audio production of Night Season (World of the Lupi, #4) by Eileen Wilks and it was okay. Some good steam and story building. Looking forward to the next in the series.

I just started the audio of The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins and I am loving it already. I also started The Ploughmen by Kim Zupan

I loved Girl on the Train. Glad you are too, Regina. :)

message 7015: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Master of Desire (Brotherhood/MacAllister, #1) by Kinley MacGregor which was a mediocre read. Read like a lot of historical romances I've read so nothing really too unique about it. Also finished Velvet Song by Jude Deveraux which I found was a really boring read and the heroine was really annoying. And King Hall (Forever Evermore, #1) by Scarlett Dawn I found to be a really long and boring read for me so I skimmed it.

Going to start Heroes Are My Weakness by Susan Elizabeth Phillips since Susan Elizabeth Phillips has not yet failed me!

message 7016: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Tellulah -- I say it is so close to 5 stars. :) I loved the book. And for people who love a good thriller with really flawed characters and are looking for an absolutely fabulous audio book - try this one!

message 7017: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Vision in Silver (The Others #3) by Anne Bishop So. Freaking. Excellent. Now I get to read Dead Heat (Alpha & Omega, #4) by Patricia Briggs I'm a happy girl.

message 7021: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I never read them. :) So I don't know! I read the author's other books and thought those worked well in print, so likely it does good both ways.

message 7022: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments ok, started Dark Desires After Dusk - hopefully not too lost, because I skipped bk 5...(i'll go back to it)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I just started the audio of Heartsick (Gretchen Lowell, #1) by Chelsea Cain -- the narrator is one I have heard before (Patterson books).

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) I finish Dead Heat (Alpha & Omega, #4) by Patricia Briggs (very good!) and the last two stories in Shifting Shadows Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs . I love Briggs! Now, it's time for fantasy romance.- Radiance (Wraith Kings, #1) by Grace Draven - and maybe some chick lit New Uses For Old Boyfriends by Beth Kendrick .

I finished Dead Heat (Alpha & Omega, #4) by Patricia Briggs Much as I love Mercy and Adam, Anna and Charles just don't do it for me. It was okay.

Then, it must make the wait until Fire Touched longer. At least PB is contracted for 3 more Mercy books. There's only one more Alpha & Omega after Dead Heat. There's also supposed to be a book with Tom & Moira. I'm hoping Asil has his own book one day. Oh, and another Ben story would be nice. Some 'good' vampires, like in Shifting Shadows, would be nice too.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Where have I been.

I've been reading but struggling to have a coherent thought worth sharing. At the moment I'm reading Dead heat by Patricia Briggs. The start hasn't really grabbed me. I love the world ... I love the characters but the first few chapters haven't been as sparkly as I was hoping.

I'm also reading Trouble in Mudbug by Jana DeLeon which is cute, quirky and great fun.

Finished Beauty and the Mustache by Penny Reid and she really does write smart romance. You feel smarter just reading her books.

Also finished A Ghostly Undertaking which is a little like Trouble in Mudbug. It's cute but I don't think it's as good.

Dead Heat (Alpha & Omega, #4) by Patricia Briggs Trouble in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law, #1) by Jana Deleon Beauty and the Mustache (Knitting in the City, #4) by Penny Reid A Ghostly Undertaking by Tonya Kappes

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) Have you read the Jamie Beck yet? Worth the Wait by Jamie Beck . There are so many March releases I need to stay focused, so some books will have to wait.

"Worth the Wait" or The Danger of Destiny (Mystwalker, #4) by Leigh Evans are next in my reading queue. I should probably read the contemporary while I'm in the mood. The UF and fantasy craving has been temporarily appeased. ;D

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I just started Kindling the Moon (Arcadia Bell, #1) by Jenn Bennett and just finished Snowfall (Novella) by Mary Ann Rivers The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey Without Words by Ellen O'Connell

Girl withe all the Gifts was good. Not surprising but I loved the newish take on zombies.

I was sort of disappointed by Without Words. I enjoyed it, but thought there was some extra story that just dragged. I also wanted more steam.

I love Mary Ann Rivers, so I enjoyed Snowfall but it wasn't my favorite of hers.

I am looking for more realistic contemporary romance -- anyone have recommendations?

I am thinking of books like
The Story Guy by Mary Ann Rivers Live (Burnside, #1) by Mary Ann Rivers Snowfall (Novella) by Mary Ann Rivers Hard Time by Cara McKenna After Hours by Cara McKenna My Bluegrass Baby (Bluegrass, #1) by Molly Harper And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper Sugar Daddy (Travises, #1) by Lisa Kleypas Taking Him Down (Wilinski's #2) by Meg Maguire One Day by David Nicholls How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo Fallen from Grace by Laura Leone

The Arcadia Series is a lot of fun. Enjoy! The third book is hard to find and very pricey, but worth it!

Also, just saw this post. Late response.

Regina wrote: "Did any of you see signs of the [spoilers removed] in the earlier books? Am I missing it?"

Yes. In the Fever series, there were clue that KMM was hiding something about Dani. There was so much swagger in her character. It felt intentional, although some readers found it off-putting. In Iced we learned about the Other. What happened in Burned wasn't a surprise for me.

I was one of the few that loved Iced. While Mac was great, she rode off into the sunset with Barrons. Her story was complete. Plus, I ready for the repetition to end. So much repetition in the Fever series! But the layers, Mac's growth, the SECRETS made it all worth it by Shadowfever.

What I loved about Iced was that the entire story was fresh. No more Sinsar Dubh. No more Barrons' Pri-ya talk. Finally/hopefully, we'd find out what KMM was hiding about Dani. I was so ready for Burned. While not a let-down, by the end of the book I was done with Mac. Hopefully, Dani will be back in the next book, which KMM announced won't release until Jan. 2016! : / Oh, well.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) Starting Once Upon a Rose (La Vie en Roses, #1) by Laura Florand . It's my first Laura Florand. It's a buddy read. Time for the warm fuzzies!

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1) by Ilona Andrews which was interesting and had its moments, however I felt it was very similar to Kate Daniels in terms of characters and dialogue. Not a favorite but I will continue the series to see what happens next.

Going to start Hero by Samantha Young .
