Layali (lallouch) | 8 comments The scottish prisoner by Diana Gabaldon I was a little reluctant to start this series between it and the Outlander series I felt that I would be overwhelmed but, I'm glad I started it I'm enjoying it very much

Samantha | 419 comments I'm working my way through The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd (The MacGregors Highland Heirs, #2) by Paula Quinn

Courtney | 159 comments Finished The Vampire Queen's Servant (Vampire Queen, #1) by Joey W. Hill which just didn't pull me in and some of the scenes were kind of confusing.

Going to start The Headmaster by Tiffany Reisz .

message 6805: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished The Headmaster by Tiffany Reisz which was a nice story for a really short book.

Starting Hard as It Gets (Hard Ink, #1) by Laura Kaye .

i've heard that a lot about Joey w. Hill's vampire books - I love her BDSM sereis, but the vampire ones seem to leave a lot of ppl disappointed

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I was not impressed with Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series. I keep trying her books b/c I loved Hearts in Darkness so much. But nothing else she writes compares.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Wendy F wrote: "I say no, but it's good. Feed is definitely one of a kind, but the spin on 'zombies' in Parasitology series is interesting, and the character is very unique. It's still pretty good. :)"

Agreed. I really good read. I recommend it.

i didn't mind the 2 that she wrote for entangled press - I think she is an author who actually does really good at the novella length and not necessarily a full-novel (does that make sense?)

message 6810: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Which ones are those Dee? I would love to give them a try.

I think that may be true for her. Many romance, romantic suspense and PNR books are good in the beginning (for me) but 2/3 of the way through they fizzle. So I can see why she would be better in a novella format.

message 6812: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Cool, thank you.

message 6813: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments np - they are decent for what they are - typically I like entangled's stuff

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished The Madman's Daughter (The Madman's Daughter, #1) by Megan Shepherd and really liked it. I'm in the mood to rewatch Island of Dr. Moreau now.

Finished Magic Embrace by Jennifer Horsman . Not good. Too many idiot characters.

Still working on UnWholly (Unwind, #2) by Neal Shusterman and started Mackenzie's Mountain (Mackenzie Family, #1) by Linda Howard

That was my first thought upon finishing the book, too.

message 6817: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments The title "Magic Embrace" is pretty funny.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Yeah, it is. It's an older bodice ripper, so I figured it went with the time period.

message 6819: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I think Blackout (Newsflesh Trilogy, #3) by Mira Grant has ruined me for all other books. THIS is how you finish a trilogy. The only downside is that I have no idea what I can possibly read and enjoy half as much next.

message 6820: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Agreed!!

message 6821: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments started Betraying the Pack (Pack, #2) by Eve Langlais . liking it so far.

message 6822: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So I am stuck! I don't know what to read. Nothing sounds appealing!!

I may read these The Look of Love by Sarah Jio The Secret Side of Empty by Maria E. Andreu but I am not sure.

message 6823: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Hard as It Gets (Hard Ink, #1) by Laura Kaye , which was just alright to me.

Started Control by Charlotte Stein .

message 6824: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Quite a stressful sad week.
Roscoe, my little dog was hit by a car and died. Then late last week I was talking to a breeder thinking I would put my name on a waiting list but they said they had a little dog which someone else had backed out of so on Saturday I drove to Katoomba (to meet the breeder half way) and came home with a little bundle of fluff eating and pooping machine. Her name is Bella (name chosen by Stacia)...well the Bell was chosen by Ace, I changed it from Belle to Bella.

Oh books...right...
I'll finish The Void today. I started Jennifer Estep's latest, Black Widow last night. I finished Dreamer's Pool by Juliet Marillier a couple of days ago.

The Void (Witching Savannah, #3) by J.D. Horn Black Widow (Elemental Assassin, #12) by Jennifer Estep Dreamer's Pool (Blackthorn and Grim, #1) by Juliet Marillier

Leea | 1437 comments Ian, so sorry about Roscoe. Looks like you got a cute dog to love. Good luck, puppies are like babies...

message 6832: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Leea! Have you been doing undercover work somewhere?

message 6833: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Ha! No undercover work, although, that would be cool. Just haven't been interested in read. Last book I read and loved was Wild.

message 6834: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Thank you all. Roscoe was much loved and will be missed.

message 6835: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments So...I'm pretty sure I'm going to meet my reading goal for the year, but I feel like a fraud since I adjusted it a few months ago to three quarters of what it originally was.

message 6836: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments Don't feel like that, Angie. I don't get caught up in the reading challenges. The goal is to read and have fun.

message 6837: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (last edited Nov 20, 2014 07:06AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LMAO, please... you are not a fraud! I started this year with my loftiest goal yet, 150. That was a joke. About 3 months into the year I adjusted it down to my usual 100. After that, when I was nearly 30 books behind schedule I adjusted it down to 75! I'm still 2 books behind, lmao. And that's because I read some novellas.

It's been a rough reading year for a lot of people. :)

message 6838: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments My job is deadline driven, Sam. I really need to work to keep that out of my reading life! LOL

This did start out as a rough reading year for me, but it got much better once I made the decision to read only books I knew had been edited.

message 6839: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I think summertime is just hard. I only have one child and still those summer months are killer for me when it comes to doing anything 'mom oriented' recreational.

Once she went back to school and life evened out I was able to really get back into picking up books.

I don't even think I'm going to sign up for the reading challenge for 2015. I always keep a shelf for the year, just so I know how many I read, but the added stress of being 'behind' based on an arbitrary number I selected January 1st for the year just seems silly.

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Wendy F wrote: "I think summertime is just hard. I only have one child and still those summer months are killer for me when it comes to doing anything 'mom oriented' recreational.

Wait - you mean you all don't ignore your kid(s) to read? Uh, yeah. No, neither do I.

message 6841: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Ha!! I didn't mean that I was necessarily taking care of her. More like forced into parental activities that I normally try to avoid.

message 6842: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments My reading count is the lowest since before 2009. But I am okay with it. My life is just different now.

message 6843: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I am too. Reading is my relaxer, so I don't want to do things that make it stressful and challenging myself makes me feel intimidated and I look at it too often. I don't need Goodreads pressuring me to read faster.

message 6844: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So true! This is for fun. :)

Also, I don't know if reading is my main hobby anymore or even my relaxer. Reading from 2009-early 2013 was my only release and my only hobby. It just isn't anymore. :)

message 6845: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LOL, that's how I was prior to the discovery of Goodreads.

message 6846: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I just adjusted my reading goal to 24 books for this year. That's crazy for me, I just haven't been reading but i'd like to read one last book this year.

message 6847: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments I totally understand, Angie. I was like that too but with work and real life, I don't want to add that pressure of worrying about the reading goals. I need reading to take me away from all the life stuff...not add drama to it :)

message 6848: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Totally agree about not wanting to do anything stressful around reading. I think that's why I'm no longer reviewing anything under a 3 star read. Or even keeping track of those books. Which means giving up book counts. But I'm okay with that. I didn't want to be in a reading race anyway.

message 6849: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Skimmed through The Guardians by Mandy M. Roth which was not my cup of tea. The writing style didn't rub well with me as well as the dialogue. Also finished Control by Charlotte Stein which was alright.

Started Black Ships (Numinous World, #1) by Jo Graham .

message 6850: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) THought Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven on NG was a lot of fun. A bit wordy but good.
