I'll stalk you for updates. NA tends to be too angsty for me but this one looks different. The characters in this book sound mature and the heroine is driven. Look forward to your final reaction. :)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I need a book rec for a book challenge I am in. I need to read a book with abs on the front (male for female). I am not partial to books with abs on the front so I need help! Any recs?

I'll be lucky if I even write a review! Ha! I'll come back and update here when I'm done.

Maybe a Highlander romance? Or sports theme? These tend to have abs on their covers.

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments any length? do you have a particular sub-genre you like?

message 7157: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments It has to be at least 200 pages. I prefer contemporary realistic romance, I prefer romances without billionaires. :) I prefer for the heroine to not be a virgin.

Sci fi
Contemporary romance
Realistic romance (like cara mckenna, mary ann rivers ...)
historical fiction (lisa kleypas)
Urban fantasy

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments Get Lucky by Robin Covington - its an anthology - so 6 stories by different authors - 4 of the 6 are contemp; 2 PNR (one a fairy tale telling; one a leprecaun - although that was my least favoritE)

message 7159: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh that looks interesting! I am going to check and see if my library has it. Thanks!

message 7160: by Dee (last edited Apr 02, 2015 09:34AM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i think its ebook only - does that work? (it just came out) - can see if its kindle loanable

ETA - not loanable, but its only 99c right now

message 7161: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh its only 99cents! No need to lend it for that. I am grabbing it. I would want to read it regardless. :) Thank you!

message 7162: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments my review is posted with my comments if you want to see my thoughts - but yes, it was a solid anthology and I have a couple of new authors to check out

message 7163: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments The only downside is that it is 511 pages. :)

message 7164: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments its a decently quick read though - i think all the books are between 8-12 chapters and many of them short - but lemme troll shelves for other options ;)

message 7165: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Cool! :)

message 7166: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments Enemies on Tap (Sweet Salvation Brewery, #1) by Avery Flynn or Hollywood on Tap (Sweet Salvation Brewery, #2) by Avery Flynn - were smexy reads

message 7167: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh wow. I am going to look into #1.

message 7168: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments #2 is my favorite, but #1 is cute - its a hatfield and mccoy type storyline - i'm sitting waiting on bk 3 and she's killing me with the wait

message 7169: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I haven't heard of these before, so that is the purpose of a challenge - to try new things. If you are wanting and waiting for #3 that means good things.

message 7170: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments can you tell i like barechested men covers?

message 7171: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL, the opposite of me! So this shelf is challenging for me, thank you for making it easy.

#1 in the Avery Flynn series is only $2.99 from amazon and I have $5.99 in promotional credit right now. So this is perfect.

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i'm getting ready to read Deadly Chemistry (Sex, Lies, and Science Geeks, #1) by Teri Anne Stanley - if you want to BR a book

ETA - darn it, not long enough - back to the drawing board

message 7173: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished I'll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios and i enjoyed it! I really felt for the hero who is a wounded veteran. It read more like a YA and I think it was written very realistically.

Off to search for something else to read.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I started Captive Prince Volume Two (Captive Prince, #2) by C.S. Pacat last night.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished The Shadows (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #13) by J.R. Ward and damn, I didn't expect to be crying as much as I did. I was surprised at how deep the book was. I really liked this one, even though I didn't recognize Trez much from how he was before.

I was also surprised to see the direction swinging back to the brothers again, since they're going to be present quite a bit in the spin-off series. Rhage and Mary are getting the next book.

message 7176: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Finished a fantasy trilogy: Myrren's Gift (The Quickening, #1) by Fiona McIntosh Blood and Memory (The Quickening, #2) by Fiona McIntosh Bridge of Souls (The Quickening, #3) by Fiona McIntosh A pretty good read. Not approaching Finnikin or Brent Week's Night Angels books in terms of enjoyment though.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments read The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins
i enjoyed it. not the huge cliffy though. i'm interested to watch the movies once i'm done with the trilogy. has anyone who's read the books liked the movies as well?

message 7178: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Apr 10, 2015 08:22AM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments The movies are actually pretty good adaptations, which is rare these days with book-to-movie translations.

message 7179: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Loved Me Before You by Jojo Moyes Was worried it was going to be overtly earnest but absolutely wonderful. Picked up The Hooker and the Hermit by L.H. Cosway Anyone read it yet? I do love me some Cosway.

message 7180: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i was disappointed wiht it - i've never read Cosway, but I typically like Reid and it was just underwhelming - I really struggled with it

message 7183: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'm reading His First & Last by Terri Osburn. Oh my, she's a great writer. Very much contemporary romance and she doesn't break any of the rules of the genre but she still manages to write original and refreshing books. I'm kind of loving this book.

His First and Last by Terri Osburn

I'm also reading Thirty Two & a Half Complications by Denise Grover Swank. It's kind of cool, but this series feels a bit like a one trick dog. It's a seriously great trick like rolling over or playing dead but it's still only one trick. The books don't really change all that much but it's still entertaining.

Thirty-Two and a Half Complications (Rose Gardner, #5) by Denise Grover Swank

Not sure what I'll read next. Maybe I'll mix it up a little with a cat lady mystery. I have The Cat the Vagabond and the Victim floating around somewhere...maybe I'll give that a go.

The Cat, the Vagabond and the Victim (A Cats in Trouble Mystery, #6) by Leann Sweeney

Hey, have any of you read any Maeve Binchy? A customer is kind of prodigious. Every single day I walk up to her desk at around lunch time and she's sitting there eating her lunch and reading a Maeve Binchy novel. She's lending me one but I'm not really sure what to expect.

message 7184: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments A long time ago - she wrote more women!/ lit/family centered fiction than straight romance IMHO

message 7185: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments finished A Shiver of Light (Merry Gentry #9) by Laurell K. Hamilton and it was so so. Silver Bastard (Silver Valley, #1) by Joanna Wylde is next. saw it on audible and heard it's pretty good.

message 7186: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments lots of my friends are raving about the Joanna Wylde stuff, but IDK

Samantha | 419 comments Dee wrote: "lots of my friends are raving about the Joanna Wylde stuff, but IDK"

I have liked them so far.

message 7188: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i think because everyone raves about them, i'm hesitant to try...since the last few books on GR that have gotten really high ratings, i've wanted to throw the audiobook against the wall (and that is fairly hard to do)...

message 7189: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I love her books so much that I'm always afraid to read the next one. But she always delivers for me. And I'm like you - skeptical to try things with ratings that are too high. I don't usually agree with the masses, but I'm with them on this author!

Her books are a bit formulaic, but luckily her formula works for me! LOL

message 7194: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Just started Calamity Jayne by Kathleen Bacus. Not really sure yet. I'm at 10% and not really feeling the love but it has potential so I'll stick with it. I'm also reading The Cat, the Vagabond and the Victim by Leann Sweeney...and yeah it's like the cat ladies guide to dating. It's not too bad, I mean what's not to love about a cat lady and I haven't read a cat lady book for a while so I'm kind of in the mood.

Calamity Jayne (Calamity Jayne Mystery, #1) by Kathleen Bacus The Cat, the Vagabond and the Victim (A Cats in Trouble Mystery, #6) by Leann Sweeney

Where are all the new releases? Is it just me or is there a lack of books being released at the moment.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments finished Silver Bastard (Silver Valley, #1) by Joanna Wylde . it was ok. liked the Reaper's MC better. think i'll start The Club (The Club, #1) by Lauren Rowe next.

message 7197: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Pashazade by Jon Courtenay Grimwood and Landline by Rainbow Rowell - two very different reads but both excellent!

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments started Jason (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #23) by Laurell K. Hamilton last night. so far so good. almost done with The Club. it's a fun easy read. reminds me of Sweet Filthy Boy with how the main characters gravitate towards each other.
