This one is on my to be read list, too. There's something about this time of year when the cold is just starting to rear its ugly head that makes me want to cuddle up with historicals.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I love this weather! And one of my fantasies is to live in the area you do. :) But, having said that -- yes it is perfect weather for it.

I just want to get my reading groove back. :(

That's near the top of my TBR so I can't wait to hear what you thought of it, Regina.

Just finished I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest and loved it.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I need a shelf of Tellulah's recommendations. That looks great.

I am close to quitting my job just to concentrate on reading again. Real work life has been so hard for me the past two years.

It is good so far, not the same beautiful magic as the earlier LK historicals -- but it is much better than her most recent contemporaries. I am enjoying it a lot. I believe it is a different narrator.

I don't appreciate my area enough, that's for sure.

I hope you get it back, too. It can be such a stress reliever.

I'm sorry to hear things have been tough. And I'm glad I can pimp good books your way. :)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Truth or Beard by Penny Reid just came out as audio. I've been meaning to get around to it, bought the Kindle version a month ago, but just haven't had the time.

Anyway bought the audiobook and have been listening to it. It's pretty damned good. She's kind of out there on her own as an author. She's a proper romance author so the fantasy is there, but her writing is pretty damned smart and her characters react to things in more believable ways than in most CR.

Truth or Beard (Winston Brothers, #1) by Penny Reid

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I finished Hold Me Close by Megan Hart and loved every word of it. Up next for me is Veiled Magic by Deborah Blake .

message 7310: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Has anyone read the new Rachel Vincent book Menagerie? I can't decide if I want to pick it up or not.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I haven't. I still need to read Jace's book.

My husband and I started watching The Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime and I'm interested in reading the book. Has anyone read this author? Is he overabundant with the sci-fi lingo? I'm guessing it won't be too much in this book because it's alternate history (post WWII), and focused more on how the world would be if we'd lost the war, but I'm still curious about the writing style as a whole.

My memory of Phillip K Dick is not too heavy on the lingo. Though it also depends on the story. He wrote Blade Runner, Minority Report and Total Recall as well.

message 7315: by Ally (new)

Ally | 1 comments Hello, I read this book a long time ago (in french because that's what I am) and it was great. If you aren't familiar with sci-fi starting with the classic authors is a good idea.

It was decent. I wasn't thrilled with the way things were wrapped up, but I think this author brings something out of the ordinary to the genre, so I'll be looking for her next book.

I can't wait to hear what you think! It's one of my favorites for the year.

I just finished Misconduct by Penelope Douglas , and it's books like this that make it really hard for me to walk away from CR altogether. I really enjoyed it. Now I'm reading Dukes Are Forever (The Secret Life of Scoundrels, #1) by Anna Harrington .

message 7330: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just finished Who's Afraid by Maria Lewis. Not your typical werewolf story. It actually reminded me a little of Spotless by Camilla Monk in that it had a much harder edge than I was expecting. Still was very good.

Also The Color of Light by Emilie Richards. Maybe more women's fiction than romance, with a spiritual thread running through it.

Rottweiler Rescue by Ellen O'Connell. Was kink of expecting a romance along the lines of her Western romances....not so much. It was OK....I think it was good....honestly I don't remember.

And Goody Two Shoes which was great fun. Perfect.

Who's Afraid? by Maria Lewis The Color of Light (Goddesses Anonymous, #4) by Emilie Richards Rottweiler Rescue (Diane Brennan Mystery #1) by Ellen O'Connell Goody Two Shoes (Invertary, #2) by Janet Elizabeth Henderson

I'm so glad you enjoyed this book! Her books do have so much depth. And even when you're frustrated with her characters for their choices, it's almost like you can't be mad at them, because you know it's their messed-upedness that's causing it.
