Hey Amber feel free to just dip in and out when times permit. There's no pressure here and hopefully the emphasis is on great discussions, chatting. Kind of the point of a book club!!

I'm disabled, my knees and shoulders are shot. I walk with a cane. I was out today and have "stuff" to do tomorrow. I have some pain when I over do. So anyway, I'm a little sore.

Take it easy, Mike. Rest when you can and don't overdo!

Janet is right, you should take it easy. I hope the pain eases up for you, I honestly know how you feel. Take it easy on yourself tomorrow when you go out. Don't stress your limits :) Have a good night my friend :)
Welcome to all the new members! I hope you have fun here! Check out the Book Pals, it is a great way to meet other people.
I'm assistant Pastor at our church so I was there today. I pick up a guy who was homeless (when I'm in Nashville) and bring him to church. I wait till he eats (we have a meal after church) and then take him home. We worked with him for a while. We have 2 congregations so when I'm in Murfreesboro another man picks him up. He has a couple of Doctor's appointments tomorrow so I'll be taking him to those (God willing). I don't have any cartilage left in my knees. They need to be replaced but I can't cover the out of pocket cost so far. Just life. Mostly I sit at my computer or my "craft table" at home. I need to get back to the "Y" and walk in the pool. I used to do that to get some exercise. I need to start again as sitting so much, "ain't good" they tell me.
:)
The water exercise sounds good, keeping you mobile and not so hard on your joints. Try that if you can. :-) Take good care.
Hi Paige,
Mike look after yourself as best as you can.

Thanks for all your kind wishes. You certainly are a friendly bunch! I think that i will like this group! :)
Hi Mike. you are a great person. I read books from Joel Osteen, some do not like him because he only speaks of encouragement. You are a man of Faith and I would recommend Joel's book "I Declare 31 Promises to Speak over Your Life" I thought that I would never make it through after what had happened to me. I had to learn to breathe all over again (I can't breathe deeply) due to my sternum and chest wall injuries. I have chronic back and shoulder pain as well and every day living can be a chore. I know what you're going through and all the while you don't worry about yourself, you worry about others and how to take care of them. Read Joel's book and I bet you find some true inspiration. It really helped me and believe it or not, you can heal yourself with God. Hydrotherapy works wonders. It is actually the best therapy I had found for my shoulder and low back. "I DECLARE I will experience God's faithfulness. I will not doubt. I will keep my trust in Him, knowing that He will not fail me. I will give birth to every promise God put in my heart and I will become everything God created me to be. This is my declaration." Feel better soon :)
My late wife liked J. Osteen. I don't read as many nonfiction books as I used to but there are always good inspirational books out there. I love C.S.Lewis and Thomas Torrance. I'm still working my way through many of the books I own, LOL. Thanks for the recommendation.I hope you do better and I'll pray for you and your health if that's okay.

We have 2 congregations so I'm at one or the other Sundays. We also have Wed. night small group plus I have a prison ministry twice a month and work with homeless on occasion. This is due to my retirement. It's odd as I'm disabled and unable to do the job I did for years (decades) but now have time to serve. I have to take it easier physically but mostly it's okay.My wife passed away back in 2009 after a long illness (she was bed fast the last 2 years). I took most of that time and quite a while after she passed off but have slowly gotten back into serving.
Our other assistant pastor is about to move to Texas and take over a congregation down there as senior pastor so that means....more opportunity to serve(?) LOL.
I used to listen to Christian talk radio all day and also follow several ministers on TV but not so much now. I follow print and we generally cover given books in the "ministerial group". Lots out there. Get a good grounding in scripture. There are many encouraging reads.
Hi all! I'm Denise. I live in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia with my husband and our two dogs. I am a youth counselor and work with at risk teens. Obviously I love to read and thrillers are my favorite, especially psychological thrillers. I love swimming, hiking, camping and being outdoors in the summer months. During our long, cold winters I like to paint and just started doing some cross stitching last year.
Hi Denise,A fellow Canadian. I live in Toronto, and love to read and cook. Welcome to the group. Super bunch of people, and lots of recommendations.
Enjoy!

Hi Sean,Yes, I love Toronto too. We live in the west-end of Toronto in Etobicoke, 10 minutes from the airport. My husband drives the large Coach buses for charters to the US, Ontario, Quebec. He weekly makes trips to Niagara Falls, both sides. It is very peaceful yet exciting there. The Westin Harbour Castle is exceptional. He also goes to Niagara-On-The-Lake, and just got back from a weekend shopping excursion to Destiny USA.

Hi all,I'm Tony from Maryland. I'm a biomedical engineer and currently working on a PhD to extend my research experience. I love to read and write thrillers, as well as hike and travel whenever I can manage. I'm a big fan of medical/technological thrillers. Anything that combines my passions for biomedical science and literature is a winner for me.

So Sue, what did your husband buy for you? Anything special or exciting. I'm curious because most of the men I know don't like to shop. :(
Hi and welcome to Amber, Denise from Scotland, Paige, Denise from Nova Scotia and Tony. This is an awesome group!
Hi everyone --I'm David Rheem Jarrett. I'm a Goodreads author, but spent most of my life in an entirely unrelated career. I have been an inveterate reader since childhood, and for the past twenty years have been a fan of the works of Michael Connelly, John Sandford, Stephen Hunter, and other crime thriller authors. I do not enjoy books with protagonists who are "too good to be true" as far as their powers and abilities are concerned, preferring to read about those who might actually be able to perform the deeds ascribed to them. I also do not enjoy reading novels written in the first person or in the present tense -- just my own prejudice, but a strong one. I look forward to meeting all of you and exchanging ideas.

I mostly just "eavesdrop" in this group. I like the way it operates, genuinely friendly and also really a group of readers talking about books. It's not all author promo. I enjoy thrillers on audiobook when I'm on long drives--and I do some seriously long drives-- so I've been collecting recommendations from the group. However I don't read thrillers as much as I do mystery and literary fiction (the books I write hover on the junction between those genres) so I haven't been as active as many of you. Glad to be among such enthusiastic readers, though. If anyone knows of a mystery group that operates the same way, let me know. There are SO MANY groups on GR. I found a mystery lovers group that had succumbed to suffocation by author promo, did my best to resuscitate it. That lasted about two weeks, with some book discussion and recommendations, but I only managed to pull about five readers out of the cyberwoodwork, not enough to keep the group from collapsing back into its former state. Great group here, Sean.
