The Insane Challenge - 2013
#8 Post-apocalyptic: Blindness by Jose Saramago
#9 Classic: One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
True crime finished as well - underbelly: the gangland war. The show was better as was the media coverage but it filled in the gaps the media left out
I've just decided on my poetry book - is on order as I type :)
If: A Treasury of Poems for Almost Every Possibility by Allie Esiri

Darlene, do you ever put your reviews on Goodreads?
Finished reading Ian McEwan's Sweet Tooth ( espionage).Am reading Saramago's Cain. Idon't know what genre that will fall under. Its not shown anywhere in goodreads. The blurb at the back says ' Written in the last years of Saramago's life, Cain wittily tackles many of the moral and logical non sequiturs created by a wilful, authoritarian God,forming part of Saramago's long argument with God and recalling his provocative novel The Gospel According To Jesus.'

I really liked the writing, and José Saramago is one of my fav authors now. If I could read it again for this challenge, I would file it under
Historical Fiction OR Literary Fiction OR Humor.
Humor may not seem like the "right" challenge fit at first, but it is ironic and witty and turns the Biblical story of Cain on its head. I don't know how familiar you are with the original (my other half is a Hindu Desi and I doubt he would get all the humor I did), so that maybe a good place to start to appreciate the humor.
It's a great book. Enjoy.
Diane, thank you for the input.:-) I shall definitely place Cain under Humour.I'm an agnostic Hindu and I love Saramago. The tongue-in-cheek straight-faced sarcasm is so enjoyable.I've reached the place where Cain is leaving Job and setting out for Nod.

#14 Education: How to Read Literature Like a Professor: A Lively and Entertaining Guide to Reading Between the Lines by Thomas C. Foster, a great primer on how to get more out of your reading.
***I'm sure someone would argue about which of Hammett's novels I have placed under "Noir" or "Hard-boiled", but I originally had Red Harvest listed as "hard-boiled" back in December so I simply kept it there. I read so many novels because I checked out Complete Novels : Red Harvest / The Dain Curse / The Maltese Falcon / The Glass Key / The Thin Man from my local library and while The Maltese Falcon was easy to spot in the volume (much darker pages in the middle of the volume) the other pages looked pristine in comparison. So, I decided to read as many of Hammett's other novels as possible. :)
Gave up on book #18 - The Waste Land and Other Poems. I can't stand poetry.Enjoyed books #19 and #20 - All Quiet on the Western Front and Hounded.
