I love The Secret Garden. One of my favorite books. :)

8565 Christina, My son actually has that book, but I have never looked at it, lol. Otherwise I would know more. But I think you are right, I think he does some of the writing.

As long as his contribution is too the writing, it would count

I love those win-wins, Amy

Cloud Atlas by David MitchellWool Omnibus (Silo, #1) by Hugh Howey..."

If it is definitely Short Stories, though, I say it counts anyway. I have read books that definitely should have been on the shelf but were not before, and I always count them. I figure the intent is to get you to read that genre or category for the month.
8565 That is a great list, Candice. How I might have to take a look at a few of those.
8565 I for one, really love short stories. In fact, I have been doing a challenge for the last two years where we read 52 short stories a year. This should really help me fill this years challenge list.

My list is
Don't Look Now: Selected Stories of Daphne Du Maurier by Daphne du Maurier
Tenth of December by George Saunders
The Color Master: Stories by Aimee Bender
8565 Thanks to Nadine for picking our shelf for May. Her choice is Short Story Collections

What from this list strikes your fancy?

I hope you like it! :)"

Thanks for picking so quickly, Nadine. I love short stories, but Bea and D.G. are right, we need to go for the list, so I will use the one that Bea listed. I can't wait, I have so many short story collections that are on the list.

8565 Elizabeth of York: A Tudor Queen and Her World by Alison Weir

A behemoth of a book about one of the subjects I love, the British Royalty from Medieval times, by one of my favorite authors on the subject. Elizabeth was the daughter of Edward IV, niece to Richard III, and mother of Henry VIII. Lots of great information in this book, although most of it was not new to me. Also, I was hoping for a bit more about Elizabeth, as not much has been written about her. Most of the book actually dealt with the people surrounding her (her world, as the title says) which was still interesting. I give this one 3.75.

I haven't read that one yet, Susan. Hopefully someone has.

8565 Susan wrote: "Also, for multiple authors -- what about children's books, which list author and illustrator?"

for most cases, I would say that the illustrator does not count as an author. The only exception that I would see is in the case of picture books for VERY SMALL children, where the pictures tell as much of the story as the words. In the case of regular children's books, like Little House on the Prairie , that include illustrations, I would say no, even if the illustrator is listed on the book.

I would think that because YouTube has the video, it would be more like watching a movie than listening to an audio book. So from that perspective I would say that it would not count.
