I've already found a book for the Shifters shelf. Can ..."
As LynnB said, you can use the old shelves instead of the new shelves.
Your second question is interesting. My first inclination would be that you cannot exchange one of the new shelves for the other, but after thinking about it for a while, it makes a certain amount of sense to be able to use any combination of them.
Hopefully Tien will clarify later today when she is on.

And, now that I am finally hom..."
Just wait until it explodes your list of books you want to read .... :P

ooh, that is perfect!

I've replaced indie-own & shifter on basis:
1. difficult to get your hands on indie-own if you don't read ebooks plus I'm not going to ask you to spend the money to read them either! ..."
Yep, Anthropology will be no walk in the park, either. but at least that is more interesting.

however, your note made me realise that there would be lots of indie ones on Smashwords. Some may ..."
Good point about the legality. I was presuming an established site.

Thanks Amy. Those are good recommendations. As for listing the site...I put links to other sites on here at times and no one has ever made an issue of it.

This is actually Tien's brain child, and I'm pretty sure, based on past experience, that she won't change the "now more than one shelf in a month" rule for skipping. I think the idea is to get us to read out of our comfort zone a bit :( Especially since "shifter" books, while not a preference for most of us, are pretty mainstream and easy to get.
As for indie - own - My guess is that this list represents independently published books that people own. That would be why most of them are in electronic format only, and why most libraries don't have them.
I am going to go look at the shelf now to see what my recommendation to Tien might be.

One more question, since I am joining in May, can I use reads that I have completed in the time period ( as verified by my Read list ) as long as it fits into the time period of Card..."
As long as you read the book AFTER the card for that month was announced, then you can go back and use it. It is a bit tricky since the game started on January 1, but the cards are usually posted on the 15th of the month. So--here is the schedule:
January - Anything read after Jan 1, 2014
Feb - Anything read after Jan 15, 2014
Mar - Anything read after Feb 15, 2014
and so on. So you can actually start reading books that apply to the June card now. You don't have to wait until after June 1.
The only other difference is that the December card will be open until Jan 31, 2015, so you actually have from Nov 15, 2014 to Jan 31, 2015 to read for that card.
Hope that clears it up.
Also - Just a clarification. Every book does NOT have to belong to a shelf. It does have to belong to a shelf OR up to 3 categories. So, for instance...If you find a book for the Multiple POV category, but it doesn't fit on one of the shelves, that is okay. In the end, to call the card complete, all 12 shelves and all 12 categories must be met.
The biggest drawback to reading books that fit categories only is that you end up reading more books that way. That is why most people make sure that all of their books fit a shelf.
Hopefully that hasn't confused the heck out of you, but let me know.

Each month / card read books which feature the chosen letter as the first letter of a word in the title or authors name, and match either a shelf and / or up..."
Welcome Amanda. Glad to see you aboard. I think that Amy explained the game pretty well, but if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. You can send me a PM or post here. I try to get on at least once a day.
Amy - Thanks for explaining, and the GREAT example. :)

Thanks Dionisia. Send me a PM when you are done. :)

I have to agree with you about the character development. I actually enjoy short stories, but when I do find one that doesn't measure up, it is usually the character development that is at fault. If not that, it is the plot development. Too many authors spend time developing the plot and then decided. "Oh, this is a short story, it needs to end," and just cut them off.

Lynn - I remember reading this story a long time ago, and thinking about how creepy it was. Definitely an interesting concept.

Looks like you are in for a scary month, Lyndi. :) Be sure to come back and post your reviews or comments here when you finish reading each book. Just FYI - we usually post the list of what we are going to read in the What will you read? folder. If you are interested in what the rest of us have slated, you can look at our lists here

So, without further ado....Please share your thoughts, ratings, and anything else you want about your Short Story Collections here.
And don't forget to post quotes from your Short Story Collections here

Even though I haven't been reading, I've carried a book (tried different ones too) / my Kobo with me all the time but just couldn't make the effort to read! I just don'..."
So excited to see you post here. You have been missed. The second trimester is usually better, and I hope it is for you. :) Hope my limping along has helped keep things somewhat up to date. :)

I just finished

Wow, that WAS quick. :)

Hope it goes well, Debi!

Thanks for letting us know about the book. At least you will have plenty of time to read, right? I hope it is a good one. :)
