Thanks for being so on top of things, Amy.
The Malala book sounds really interesting.

I did actually manage to get in one short story collection in the month of May. It was
Trouble in Mind: The Collected Stories, Volume 3 by
Jeffery Deaver. Not having read any of Deaver's work, I felt this book was a perfect introduction. It had a couple of stories with characters from his series in it, but mostly just a lot of good shorts in the mystery/crime genre. He said he likes to stretch himself, so he included a couple of stories that were more sci-fi/fantasy than crime, and they were really good, too. I am definitely looking forward to reading one of his full length novels.

I am not a big circus fan, but I have heard so much about this book. I really want to read it, but have been sort of afraid to.
BTW - I know how you feel about reading the books on the shelves. Many months I am not able to fit one in myself.

I am looking forward to it. Thanks, Charity.

I love that, Matt. I never read the book, but I remember the movie, and that is the line I associate with it the most.
Dang, I was looking forward to your review , :P

Susan - have a great time visiting your new grandson and everyone. Sounds like fun. Looks like you have quite a good list there.
I agree with you and Melissa - a lot of the books on this month's shelf are not what I would call "Beach Reads", but I guess that is the beauty of user driven shelves, huh? The names mean something different to everyone. I have a shelf that I call juvenile and use for middle school and early high school books, but recently realized that some people think that means too young to be good. As a result, I changed my shelves.

Chuck Palahniuk when I think Beach Reads.....NOT!

There is a lot on the list that I would not consider beach reads, lol. Some pretty heavy stuff. I tend to think of beach reads as fluff, so I am going to go with those types for my list. With both of my boys graduating from college this month, I can REALLY use some light, quick books! Here is my list:

Life's a Beach....well, at least our books this month are. Let us know how "beahy keen" your books are by posting your favorite quotes here. Any old quote will do, funny, serious, something that just lets us know how you feel about the book.....Or if your stuck, there's always page 46!

Let's see how many
Beach Reads we can get under our belts whilst we are all enjoying our holidays. Post your reviews here, and don't forget your quotes on

The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea last night. Great book, very readable. Lots of suspense and Junger has a great writing style. So tragic, though.
Dee, you're up!

Oh, I know the feeling.....and it is not like I don't have other things to read in the meantime....

I can do that if you want, Dee, lol.

Sorry for the delay, folks. I have been gone for a week. My book for Award winner is
The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea by
Sebastian Junger, which I have been wanting to read for a while. It won the PEN New England award for non-fiction in 2007 and the ALA Alex Award in 1998. I am already halfway finished and should finish in the next day or two.

With books that the category is more than on..."I have been finding that the POV books are the hardest ones to find. I think many of us have read a book only to find out partway through that the POV is not correct. I would say that listing the book on that month's thread and asking if anyone has read it is probably good. You can also look at other members threads where they are keeping track of their progress and see what they have listed.
As for publication date, the date first published is what we are looking for.

Amanda - It gets better, though. Eventually she will get old enough and you will read the same books. That is what happened with me and my boys, who are college age now.
