YAY!!!! Thanks for posting. :)

I finished it in January too - I found that it was really well written, but too much lit crit for my brain as a new year's read. I wish I had been in a different frame of mind when I read it, because I could TELL how much I would love it in a different mood, but wasn't feeling it and it took awhile to get through.

I started
Shadow Play last night, given to me by aforementioned pseudo-sister. I'm liking it so far. I've been impressed by Charles Baxter's books in the past, and this one is starting out well.

Finished
tonight and gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed it - I think to some degree reading
got my brain into a place where the heavy philosophical thinking wasn't such a stretch for me to read. I will think about this one for awhile. I certainly don't think it's a universal read. I kept wondering whether or not I should pass it to my mom.
...and now am looking at my piles for what's next...again!

@Petra - people oriented. I take retirement claims and disability claims for the federal government's Social Security programs - and the direction/topic seemed WIDE open in my discussion with my managers. "Read a book - or more" they said. My goal is basically to move from a position where I'm doing the claims to one where I'm a program expert and help the others within our agency interpret policy, and process THEIR claims.

Appreciate it!!!

Hmmm - both look interesting and not utterly dreadful. :) Thanks for suggestions, I appreciate it!

I'm about 1/3 through
The Elegance of the Hedgehog and am enjoying it. It's not anything I expected, but an interesting book.
I will likely get some unexpected reading time in today - I have a sick little girl home with me so no work for me.

I have been selected for an achievement program at work which is designed to get me some additional experiences within my agency and prep me for further advancement.
One of the requirements is for me to read something that will supposedly help me along the way career-wise.
I honestly see the titles of these books and cringe. Their premises irritate me. I found myself trying NOT to roll my eyes as my manager offered me use of the books he had sitting in his office -
Crucial Confrontations was one of them...
I think part of it is the English snob in me. We used to mock these books roundly when I was in college. And now I'll have to read one (or more! they offered...)
So please, help me out. It doesn't seem to really matter what I choose. My career goal isn't management, but a role where I'm a resource to others within my agency. Do you guys have any suggestions? (I work as a Claims Representative for Social Security - so currently take and adjudicate claims)

I agree with Katy - particularly this winter - I want something fluffy and entertaining, the weather is enough of a drag. For example, I have
Child 44 sitting on my shelves, and figured I'd pick it up. After the first chapter I decided I was in no mood for something that dark and put it back. I've had a blast with my choices thus far - a cozy, a Stone Barrington installment and three Bee books. I start thinking more of the classic chunksters in late winter and will pick one up. Then that'll be my sloooooooow read. :)

@Garlan - I'm glad to hear your endorsement! I'm planning a lazy afternoon with my book this afternoon.

I'm a little over half done with
- the second in a cozy series that Stephanie introduced me to in her new cozy mystery group.
I'm also planning on starting
tonight or tomorrow. (Thanks Elizabeth!)

I just finished this one and gave it 5 stars - I loved it, I thought it was so well done, the characters were all very well fleshed out (yes, particularly Allie - was a little duck) and there were for sure issues with how things were handled with potential affairs, but I think that made it a better book - real life gets messy.

Loved it! I felt it..."OOOO - READ IT!!!! I'd love to hear what you think. I've read my copy at least 10 times.

I just finished this one after 2 evenings reading - I didn't want to put it down and totally resented going to work today because it messed with my reading time.
Loved it! I felt it drew a bit from
and
- I love both of these so that was a bonus for me.

I've finished
and
this week. Both were quite enjoyable! I like the Stone Barrington novels, and this one seems to be setting up another series. I wish my life was as charmed as that of some of Stuart Woods' characters!

Congrats Sara and Monica! Babies are fabulous.
I set my 2012 goal for 100 again. Last year I made 88 or so. One more book a month must be doable, right?
