MMMM - yeah. I don't really expect more than a 3 from that one. And imagine finishing it when you couldn't move on to the next in the series. I'm going to wait for you guys to tell me it is fabulous before I invest my energy. I REALLY enoyed the first books, but the last one (before 2011, anyway) did NOT entice me to continue!

It really shouldn't be too much for you to get through those - especially as you've been cranking through the Martins.

I finished You Know When the Men Are Gone tonight - WOW - I was really impressed. I have two cousins and an uncle who have been deployed since 9/11, and while I don't have direct experience as a wife or daughter, I was awed by this collection and felt that it was really well done.

7638 I made it safely home and what was supposed to be a good storm petered out into totally nothing on Wednesday, so I've been working all week, and will have to put in a regular week next week and then Kasia and I will head back to my sister and nephew on Friday the 9th. :) My boys are going to the Cub Scout Winter Camp that weekend so the girlies will have a road trip of our own.

7638 I had a whole post composed earlier that was lost when Goodreads became temporarily unavailable and the little girl who strikingly resembles Emma Watson's Hermione Granger appeared...

Tonight is my last night with my sister and nephew. I have had the most wonderful week here with them, and am already distraught at missing moments with Max. (Tasha, he's Max, short and sweet. AKA, Little Mr. or Mr. K - his initials are MRK. :)

The weather here is not great, first real winter weather of the season hits when I have a 250 mile drive. So, thoughts and prayers as I treck across the state between storms are appreciated. I have The Eyre Affair on audio book for my ride, and will hopefully have my trip well timed between blizzards.

7638 I'm nearing my 33rd hour in a row awake. I cannot remember when I've done this last. However, it was worth it. :)

I was there for the birth of my nephew, Max Rylan, who was born this morning at 7:36 am and was 8 lbs 5.9 oz. My sister and nephew are doing well - he's beautiful!

7638 She agrees with her sister's perspective that epidurals are good. :)

7638 Tasha - thank you for your input. :) It gives me a different perspective, and I do need that sometimes.

I am currently at my sister's - I came yesterday after her doctor's appointment. She is dialated to 3 and the weather is supposed to get bad. So, I drove down yesterday. We've mall walked and she's feeling ready to go - she's going to rest now but we anticipate going to the hospital this afternoon. I'm REALLY excited to meet my nephew!!!!

7638 I grabbed this at the library yesterday and will likely either finish tonight or tomorrow. I'm enjoying it - it seems a little older than the typical YA somehow. I almost wish it wasn't the start of a series though...just one more thing I will want to read/see NOW.

7638 Hello Bees -

I'm still reading a lot and quickly going through books. It's been awfully enjoyable.

I'm anxiously awaiting my nephew's arrival. I'm now to the point that I wonder if it's my sister every time the phone rings. I'll spend 4 or 5 days with her when he arrives, and I've made my library trip for the event. My brother-in-law actually asked if I had MY bags packed yet. :) That made me feel good - I'm glad they both want me to be there.

We had conferences for the kids last week and Kasia's was amazing - both her reading and math levels are where they should be for a child through 2nd grade, which is great for my little girl not through grade 1 yet.

Gabe is another story. His attention is worse. He's missing instructions often, and it's hurting his grades. He has a speech issue (I liken it to buffering - it's a mid-word stutter, it sounds like a video buffering on a computer) he is in the highest reading level currently, but his teacher said that next year they may not put him in the high level because of this "fluency" issue. She said he slows down the group. :( He's gone from above average in his scores to average - and most of it is the attention to detail and instructions thing. I don't know. Then Mike and I got into it because he thinks my expectations are too high for Gabe. I don't agree. If Gabe were not capable of excelling I would be ok with him getting average scores. BUT, when he's gone downhill and it's mostly because he's not listening to instructions?!? Way different.

Yay Mommy-hood.

7638 I finished The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey today - it was very good. It's not like anything I've ever read before. 4 stars.

7638 Lynn - I totally agree! She was a total home wrecker. Not that Ernest was without fault, but seriously - your best friend's husband? There's nothing redeeming about that.

7638 I finished A Red Herring Without Mustard (A Flavia de Luce Mystery #3) by Alan Bradley - and I just can't like these books that well. And I wanted to. But just 2 stars. It felt llike such a slog, although at moments I do find Flavia charming.

I really enjoyed Igraine the Brave by Cornelia Funke which I read aloud with my son. That one was purely delightful.

7638 Just in case anyone is interested...

My husband has been doing a lot of painting lately, and has gotten a fairly decent sideline business going. If you're interested check him out at

www.mikethepaintslinger.com or he's on Facebook as Mike's Custom Painting. :)

7638 I think you got the better deal too, Tara. :) And if Mike becomes a house husband and works full time on his painting, then he'll have to be the maid too. :)
Feb 13, 2012 05:44PM

7638 It is REALLY good. I haven't enjoyed reading aloud this much in a long time. It's so much more fun than all the Ready Freddy and Magic Treehouse I've been doing lately.

7638 I was telling my mom about this one, and that I thought she would like it. She said, "I'm reading that. I don't think it's so great." I asked where she got it, and she said it had just showed up on her Kindle. Evidently the wifi was working at the farm the day that I got it from the library. I had to laugh, I thought that was pretty funny. Although I'm not sure why she doesn't like it. She says it's slow. I didn't find it slow. Perhaps she's a little too used to her cozy mysteries right now - if there is murder in the first 20 pages it tends to seem to be moving faster, I suppose.

7638 Boxers are Mike's favorite dog too - I grew up with Golden Retrievers, and had a Chow-Chow I loved. I have a notion if/when we move out to that place in the country a Boxer puppy will follow pretty quickly. Sofia will have to show her who's boss when that day comes. :)

Does he have kids? Cuz I may feel a little sorry for them. My kids are currently irritated with me because I will be missing bedtime reading tonight. BUT, a girlfriend I haven't seen in a couple years is in town, so must see her!
