7638 I've finished it now, and allowed myself to read the thread - I gave it 5 stars. Amy, your review is wonderful, but part of what you disliked about how we're always kept as observers is to me a part of the "show". The magic is that it's a story - and the most important character in the story is the Night Circus itself. None of the players or characters really matters in and of themselves, but instead it is the way that they come together that creates the story and the Night Circus. I think that is why there isn't as much character development necessary for me. Nearly everyone has a role, some bigger than others, but only the circus stars.

7638 I'm about halfway into this one, and agree with the "hypnotic" statement. The writing is just gorgeous, and the fairy tale quality of the book is amazing. I'm really enjoying it thus far.

Now I am reading Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card. I'm hooked already!"

Ender's Game is one of my all time favorites.

7638 Thanks guys!

Tara, yes and no - we will still be in our current home when school starts in the fall, so the kids would be in their current school and stay there. It is technically in the other district, but we should be able to open enroll them back to their school the following year.

7638 I finished Wild Thing this week and didn't love it as well as Beat the Reaper but still thought it good. It was funnier in parts and had a lot of political discourse in it which I find interesting, but would potentially turn off some readers. This one was much more uneven than Beat the Reaper, which was disappointing, but it was still a good read.

7638 Well, still distracted but I've read some. We have designed a home and are waiting on the final blueprints and then will get the papers signed to build this summer. Utterly exciting and terrifying. I didn't really see us building again but we're too picky for anything else, I've discovered. So, a new home in the fall, a summer of showing and keeping the house immaculate (ugh...that's really not me). I've started going through closets now and have already gotten 10 garbage bags ready for donation.

HOPEFULLY I'll be able to find some time for reading this summer. I'm awfully slow right now.

7638 Congrats and good luck Jen! The world needs more teachers who love their subject. I'm sure your students will be lucky to get you!

I haven't yet Liz, but I have to say the premise irritated me, so I didn't have high hopes. I'll get it from the library. Eventually.

Yeah, that looks a little different!!!

7638 I've started Wild Thing (Peter Brown #2) by Josh Bazell - I liked the first in this series, and am enjoying the 2nd so far. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for crass humor.

Yay. Thank you.

7638 I read this last year, and the prose was beautiful, but it wasn't one I really enjoyed. However, it has really stuck with me - likely more than other books I gave 5 stars to, which says a lot about how well done it really was. I can still vividly remember much of it, which for a book I believe I only gave 3 stars to is pretty remarkable.

7638 How were the worms? I keep thinking of the bookworms from The Eyre Affair as you're doing worm station at the library.

Please post on how you felt about Heartless - I was so distraught after Changeless that I wasn't sure I ever wanted to read the series again.

7638 I have been terrible - but Nicholas is not abandoned. I had a house that we looked at, offered, lost and now may be pending, so I've been REALLY ocd about that and not good at concentrating. Hence, picked up some old favorites to re-read because my concentration level has been nil.

HOWEVER - I've managed to retain a bit of concentration lately, and have plans to devote a few hours to Nicholas on Saturday between lots of loads of laundry. :) Will check in afterwards!

7638 The flower trucks aren't here yet - but the lilies are starting to poke up. I am looking forward to another warm weekend here to get everything ready, but it's been really cold again - 30's and 40's so I'm not up for gardening yet!

7638 Hmmm - I could have sworn I had commented in this thread, but I guess not. As usual Amy, you've hit the nail on the head. I feel exactly the same way. I got through it because it was short, but nothing about the story grabbed me. The writing was beautiful in parts, but I thought mundane in others. Not one that will stick with me at all.

7638 I finished re-reading To the Nines which is my favorite Stephanie Plum novel. I'm now working on The Fool's Run. I love John Sandford, and it's fun to read a book on computer espionage from the 80's - way different than today's technology!

7638 It's been a roller coaster week - we lost the bid on the house...maybe. :( It's still listed as "Active" rather than "Pending" and the other people's financing may not be solid. And I've started the process of getting the information to build in the same development. I've been too distracted to read much. I'm reading some candy books when I can calm down enough. I've been something of a wreck.
