FYI -
is 2.99 today - just bought it, and I saw it on a few of your lists.

I know Adonica is watching it. I'm pathetic and hardly watch any tv.

I liked that one better too. I read the shining in hs and didn't love it.

I started listening to Looking for Alaska on my drive this weekend. Fastest 275 miles ever!!!

Dang, I think I'm in the mood for vampire porn so it will be mine (at last!) soon.

She started yesterday. :). And she loves it but is bothered by how Gus calls her Hazel Grace. I loved that, so we argued about it.

I loved my tapes...I had a dual deck boom box I got for Christmas in 5th grade (probably one of my favorite gifts ever) then in hs I bought a table top stereo...tape AND cd changer!!! I've thought about how amazing it is that the CDs I bought in hs still work fine and the tech isn't obsolete yet.

I remember bawling when my boom box ate my tape! Oh the angst!

I thought Of Mice and Men very beautiful, was one of those weird kids who actually loved The Catcher in the Rye when I read it the first time in HS. I haven't read Slaughterhouse 5 so I'll have to add that to the list. :)
I've read a few non-Bee books lately -
- this was an audio book I enjoyed while driving to and from Minneapolis this weekend. I love Peter Mayle for his food and wine writing. The mystery and characters are pretty weak, but I forgive that for the vicarious food and wine porn.
- was a Nook read, and was ok, but the number of typos in the text really drove me nuts.
- the sequel to
which I really enjoyed after a slow start. Now I have to wait for the finale. Hmmph!

I just read through this thread after devouring this book in a day. I gave it 5 stars, as I was moved on many levels by this book - its writing, its subject, the way it made me love the characters.
Here is my review:
Sometimes you should pick up a book without reading the jacket, without knowing what you're getting into and just be carried along for the ride. I had no idea what this book was about when I picked it up, I only knew that people I trusted liked it.
It is beautiful, it is funny, it is sad it is irreverent and witty. It is a book that a person should read with or without reading a synopsis. But, I hope for your sake you get to come at it blind, like I did, and marvel in the beauty.
The dialogue among the teens was something that I loved, because when I was that age - and even now - I will up my language to the level of the people around me, and my friend Nicki and i are at our most obnoxious and pretentious together. I actually took a picture of a page and sent it to her with demands that she read the book.

Oooo - I'll have to do the same. Thanks!!!

I was super excited to be the winner on Amy's blog of
. :) I have been starting to follow a few book blogs and am debating about doing one myself. We'll see.

Yes, this one wasn't really supernatural other than the ghosts...and they weren't that creepy. :) But it's usually people who end up to be the scariest monsters anyway!

awesome! I'll have to get The Fault in our Stars! Thanks Lisa!

I finished
Shadow of Night this weekend and I really enjoyed it. It took me longer to get into than
A Discovery of Witches but I thought that it was pulled together really well. There are a couple loose ends that confuse me about the time travelling, but that's a hard concept to get perfect.

I am just starting today but my first impression is that this may be one of the most beautifully published books I've ever seen.

Just saw Enders Game is being made into a movie. Release date is November 1...guess that's another one I will have to re-read. I suppose tech is advanced enough now to make a good go of a film?

I wondered what the author thinks of the associated titles!!! Teehee!

I had recommended
Me Before You to a friend, and she was adding it to her Goodreads on her iPad. The list of books that come up when you search this title is downright pornographic. We both giggled.
