I've been reading a lot but not so much posting... I think that
is one of my favorite surprises this year. I really loved it.
I was actually disappointed with
- I've loved her other books (
and
). It's not that I didn't like The Engagements - but it wasn't nearly as good (IMO) as the others.
I've also finished
(meh)
- one of my lesser favorite SAA books, but still really enjoyed! and
- which was one of my Christmas exchange books and I LOVED IT!!!!
I'm currently reading
and I think it's wonderful. So far almost - if not better - than

I started this last night and am already pretty consumed! I loved The Paris Wife, and this is another story from that era.

I'm nearly done with
- loving it. This is an amazing read. I don't know anything about the LDS religion beyond my friend's step son is a devout follower and it causes a lot of issues between him and his gay brother...and everyone else he tries to convert. But yet, after having read this, I guess I can see a little more how he is trying to save people - because it's what he truly believes. Great book.

I haven't seen Resurrection...but my IMDB will be cranked up.

I started reading this one...I didn't get sucked in and gave up. Should I pick it up again Alison?

Welcome New Bees!!!! Looking forward to knowing you.

Welcome to the Bees! Check out the Bee shelves for the books you want to discuss - we have tons of threads of books and if you post to one that is old, you can revive discussion. :) It's great!

I ended up buying it for my nook around Christmas, it was on sale for $2.99 I think. The main character Mor is a big sci fi fan - but the book itself doesn't feel sci if to me.

wow - it seems odd there is no chatter about this one at all. I read it for my 12 Bee Books in 2015. I enjoyed it a lot - books about book nerds are so fun to me. The magical aspects of the story weren't what I was expecting - I think based on the cover I was expecting it to be more like Sarah Addison Allen's work, and they aren't even related. This wasn't a light book - it was quite sad. It was certainly a fun one to pick up.

He's in 6th grade, so the have the Accelerated Reader requirements and tests, so he has to read something. I know that the Diary of a Wimpy Kids books is considered reading, I just keep hoping he will find something a little more challenging.

I checked out some Christopher Pike books for Gabe tonight. He's kind of digging teen horror shows, so I remember Christopher Pike being my stepping stone to Stephen King. He's not a big reader like my daughter - so I'm always trying to find him something he will enjoy. So far his favorites remain along the lines of Diary of a Wimpy Kid - and I can't help cringing. Bad mom!

I've read Plainsong, but I think it would be fun to do the trilogy.

We are melting here and have nearly no snow left!!! I'm so confused by this stupid winter.
I started Black Ice and The Engagements this weekend. Both are slow starters for me.

I finished, and did love it - I just freaked out a bit on the non-bee thread, but I know it belongs over here. I loved the concept, and I did end up caring for the characters - I had a picture in my head of Kate Mara as Emily, and that never was shaken, so I really liked her and kept liking her (reminded me of Zoe from House of Cards) but I got so excited by a scene set in my hometown, so between that and loving Emily and then reading the author's acknowledgments at the end where he makes the reader feel appreciated AND references Stephen King, I was happy. I think I have an author crush.

I don't know HOW i'll sneak up on him though - the Australia thing is daunting. I looked for an email...he has a blog. But I haven't quite gotten up the gumption to post to it. I will though. I think...
I had to give it 5 stars - first because I really did like it, but honestly, the hometown nod was pretty epic for me. When you live in a random city in a state that virtually no one knows anything about, its ridiculously exciting. PLUS - in his acknowledgments he referenced Stephen King as writing actual letters to his readers in the afterward, and how awesome he thought that was as a reader, and then he did the same thing, ad while it wasn't SK level, it was a GREAT afterward that made a reader feel good, and appreciated.
And our Uncle Stevie has referenced ND a few times in his work - but I think Fargo has been the closest he's gotten to here. And you KNOW how I feel about Uncle Stevie...

There was actually a whole scene set in Grand Forks, and from the way it's described I know exactly where it was - a few blocks from my office, actually! And as the author is from Australia I was just amazed to see a whole scene there so well rendered. I may get creepy and write a fan email to the author.

Geek moment of the day - I'm reading Lexicon (thank you TASHA!) and they are in Grand Forks!!! That's where I live!!! It's the 3rd largest town in ND, but quite honestly I can probably count on 1 hand the number of times I've seen it mentioned in a book. Always a thrill for me.

Petra - have you read Chasing Cezanne by Peter Mayle? I love that one.
