7638 I'm on the library list so I will be reading it soon. :)
7638 Elizabeth, if you're still willing to send it I'm interested in reading it. We have a large Nepali refugee community in our town, I would be interested to read this.

7638 Yes - I thought The 19th Wife was very well done. I liked how they coupled the history with a modern story. It was good enough to want to read more!

I took a class from a professor at UND who lost two of her sisters and a nephew in Jonestown. It was unreal. I think it would be interesting to get into some books on the subject. Discussions could get fun.

7638 Yes, I'm jumping up and down and screaming about The Enchanted. Everyone must read it and then discuss in our thread. Please! I want to talk about it.

7638 I've had a good run of books that are interesting and well done - it's fun to read so many good to great books, I feel like I gain momentum.

Since my last big post I've read:

Mad River (Virgil Flowers, #6) by John Sandford Mad River - which was great. I love Sandford, and this installment in the Virgil Flowers series was one of his best. I have heard rumors that Sandford is retiring, and I can see him setting up Virgil for a career change...I'll be sad to see him stop writing.

I picked up Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith because of my interest in The 19th Wife - I didn't realize it was an upcoming Bee Book. I am not a fan of non-fiction, but this was pretty good. It was a lot of history - not quite as much of the murder story as I think I was expecting, but still another interesting look at the history of the LDS church and how very different some of the offshoots of that religion are.

I read The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker in about a day. I found the story very interesting - reminded me of an old Twilight Zone episode I saw years ago. I didn't find the writing or characters amazing, but a story that is so original is always a good find. (and it looks like this is on a future bee book list too!)

Then my favorite book I've read in ages - easily in one of the best books I've ever read list - The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld The Enchanted - WHAT A BOOK!!!! Everything about this one clicked for me. I loved the prose, the story that unfolded, the imagery, the unreliable narration, and then the author's letter at the end explaining how this book came to her. Simply amazing.

7638 I was able to grab The Enchanted from the library, and WOW - so glad I did! What a stunning, amazing book!

8/12!
7638 I finished this one last week - I didn't even remember it was a new Bee book, but was interested after finishing The 19th Wife. It gave me a lot of context for that. I think that the argument of faith versus insanity was interesting and compelling. I find it really hard to understand how some of the tenets of the faith can be believed by people (and the angel named Moroni made me wonder about the source of the term Moron) but I digress...

Interested to hear what others think.

7638 I really liked both of the movies - they are quite different.

This book was great - I struggle with non-fiction, but this read more like a novel to me. I found the whole story fascinating, and Capote's life interesting as well. Who wouldn't be interested in a guy whose best friend was Harper Lee?

7638 I cannot believe how utterly amazing this book is. What beautiful prose and a very rich story. For sure a must read.

What are people's views on the horses? I loved them - I loved the creatures Arden sees and feels.

I really thought Lexicon interesting - now every time I encounter a survey, I think of it and wonder what I'm exposing by answering the questions!

7638 I will be in Dallas April 30- may 2. What should I make sure not to miss?
7638 I just finished this - loved the book. I was surprised by how the mental illness was treated and that they seemed to really think that the fact that she was ambitious and talented was the cause of her illness. This era is becoming more and more interesting to me. (It certainly didn't do anything to my impressions of Hemingway as an utter ass.)

7638 Just finished number 7! Pretty good run so far! I LOVED Z A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Anne Fowler .

7638 I adore Russo. That Old Cape Magic wasn't one of my faves by Russo. But....if it was an author I didn't love I would have put it on a pedestal.
