We obviously learned about Central America, and the Caribbean, but it was more like "North America and Central America" as opposed to "this is all North America". So it's no wonder there is confusion. "

Yes, that is what I remember as well.

I realized, after thinking about it for a while, that we really didn't concentrate on geography (outside of world history which equaled Europe mostly) after 3rd or 4th grade.
42178 Ok, Now I feel like an idiot. I did not realize that the Caribbean, among others, was considered part of "North America". I honestly thought NA was Canada, the US, and Mexico. What makes this more embarrassing is the fact that I was born in The Bahamas. In my defence, I was raised and educated here in the States, and geography is not "our" strong suit.

I started Mistborn, but put it down...for no good reason, really. It is a very interesting story, and I plan to go back to it...I just don't think it fit my mood at the time.

I think that's one of the series on my TBR / Wishlist.

42178 Just finished reading my first book in...forever... I actually can't even remember how long its been. It was Solid Soul. While it wasn't earth shattering, it was a nice way to break my reading fast.

I'm now going to start:
The Parasol Protectorate Boxed Set Soulless, Changeless, Blameless, Heartless and Timeless by Gail Carriger

I'm trying to remember who recommended it to me. Was it you Mrs. J?
42178 If you're looking for advice: The Handmaid's Tale & The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz would be my first choices as they sound fascinating and emotional. Random Passage would be a distant second (or third, as the case may be).

Christa wrote: "I like this solution."

I would not have thought of that...It breaks ALL of the rules...LOL

Hmm..I wonder if that's why Christa likes it.. :D

42178 And then my friend says this: "Pick a short book to read from 1/1 to 1/4, then go Sunday to Saturday."

42178 I posted this question on MobileRead as well (in the 2013 reading challenge thread) and saw two interesting points:

pdurrant:
Wednesday to Tuesday, IMO. And you get one more day in the last 'week', since it'll be the eight days from Wednesday 24th December to Wednesday 31st December. (52*7 =364)

Rev. Bob:
In addition, a Wednesday start keeps the weekend intact instead of splitting it across two weeks.[

42178 I'm leaning that way ...

42178 So - My OCD has kicked in and I'd like some advice.. Should I start counting my weeks from:

Wednesday, January 1st to Tuesday, January 7th
or
Sunday, December 29th to Saturday, January 4th

Sunday to Saturday is easier to track, but Wednesday to Tuesday is more "correct".
Either way I get 52 weeks therefore 52 books read.

Will look into the others - thanks! :)

42178 Spacechik, if its a book and you read it, it counts! :) Oh, and I love to hear about your "fast read" mysteries.
Nov 01, 2013 08:02PM

42178 LOL! Yes Christa dear, you are first. :)
