42178 HiMS..I'm not talking to you anymore! You're making me learn the truth about my buying habits and its not pretty! :p ;)
After doing some calculations, I can't even admit how much is tied up in unread ebooks, all purchased between 2011 and 2013 (its triple figures).
50 of the books cost $1.99 or less. with the next 51 costing between $2.50 and $7.99. I had 7 that cost between $8 and $10, then 1 at 11.99 and a boxed set (of which I read one book) that cost $19.99.

42178 I don't think they should count either.

As for tracking, while I'm not physically tracking my purchases, I am using the series challenge to curtail my spending. I have to accumulate 250 points before I can purchase a new book.
I have also decided that I will choose from previous purchases to fill in any "unplanned/what should I read next?" gaps. I would specifically like to go from most expensive to least, but it will all depend on where I am at that moment (especially if said previous purchase is in the middle of a series).

Yeah, I saw!! Congratulations. Continued success, hon!! :)

Unfortunately, It seems Christa is having a similar start to her year this year, that you did to your year last year.

42178 So I was going to read the next FoF (Flights of Fantasy) book club selection, Steelheart, but I'm still in a light reading, MG/YA, state of mind, so I'm going to continue my series challenge.
With that in mind, next up will be a reread:
NERDS National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society (NERDS, #1) by Michael Buckley NERDS: National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society by Michael Buckley.
It was such a fun read, plus we just bought the last one for our kids, and the full set for one of our nephews as a Christmas gift, so I want to complete the series myself.
I might just read all five of them back to back, but I haven't decided as yet.
I have four other books that I would like to read this month:

1. Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson (of course)

2. The Book by M. Clifford

3. Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon

4. Range of Ghosts byElizabeth Bear

42178 Hey I don't see why not.

Sorry about the New Year reading slump, hopefully you'll recover sooner than later!
42178 I love both of your reviews HiMS!

Cannery Row is on my wishlist. I have no idea when I'll get to it, but I am looking forward to it.

42178 Well, the good news: My first read of 2014 is complete!!

The not so good news: The ticker factory widget isn't working on this site for some reason, although its working fine on MobileRead.

42178 Just over 3 hours to go, here on the East Coast of the US!

Wishing everyone a Very Safe, Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year!
42178 Oooh!

As to the 2014 Widget, that goes up after midnight Pacific Time. They're on the west coast and go by their clock for it.

Reading List? Where?

Cool, I did my age challenge last year. My only advice on that is to maybe avoid science fiction from most of the 70s and 80s. :)"

You and Stephanie have more patience than I do. Other than knowing my first book would be the beloved The Princess Bride (well I love the movie .. haven't read the book), I don't think I would take the necessary time to research the other *mumble mumble* years.

I love exclamation marks. And ellipsis. LOVE ellipsis...to the point that I abuse them. (sadly)

It IS 2014 somewhere.

So, I'm starting a Jan 2014 group read when I get home tonight!"

We are kindred spirits, you and I ! :)

42178 :) When I added TLtWatW to post #2 last night, it's date also changed to Nov. 2nd. How bizarre!

Even stranger, is that they all now say Nov. 1st again! O.o

42178 How is it that my Original Post has the date Nov. 2nd, but Posts 2 through 8 have Nov. 1st?

And..its not going to happen. It does actually seem like an interesting tale; I enjoyed the 3 or four chapters that I read and I've placed it back on my TBR list. I just can't manage to give it the attention it deserves.

True. There seems to be an odd pressure that we, or at least I, put on myself when I make a list of books to read - even when they're books I know I want to read. Then I lose interest as soon as I tell myself "You have to read "X". On the other hand, I also find myself being overwhelmed by the sheer number of books I have at my disposal {talk about first world problems}, so I'm trying to walk a thin line. I'm giving myself a smaller selection pool, but leaving it wide open as to reading order.
Thats one of the things I like about the series challenge - Its based on what you read, not specifically on how many, or which ones you read. If that makes sense.
