I 2nd Caleb's suggestion: "MobileRead Book Challenges".I prefer archiving the 2011 challenge threads instead of creating a folder for the new ones.
I will be heading up the reading challenge for 2012 over @ MobilReads. Please see the post here: 2012 Annual Reading Challenge!I hope to see all of you there as well as here. :)

I think being disappointed in a book is even worse than just not liking it. If you don't like it you can usually just go on, but disappointment comes from expectations unfulfilled, and that can be a little harder to shake - if you know what I mean.
So after a 2 week hiatus and an add'l 5 days of reading off/on, I finally finished Dark Legacy last night. I can't say that I hated it. I think I'm just more disappointed. This really could have been a good book, and possibly even a good series if handled properly. It's set up for a sequel that I most likely will not read.
MrsJoseph wrote: "This is a great topic! We just finished a top 100 fantasy books in one of my other groups. I've been working on which books on the list to read..."Thank you. :) That looks like a cool challenge!
But...you don't like the Harry potter series...:( It really is a good series. The characters grow with the series, so although it starts out "childish" it matures with every book.
Christa ♥☺♥ wrote: "Excellent topic! I was just considering my 2012 reading and we've got some in common. I'm doing page counts instead of book counts this year so there are some much longer books in the plan than tho..."Thank you. :)
I'm going to edit my post to indicate rereads.
I think I have Hounded form the Iron Druid Chronicles, if not its on my Wish List.
I gave up on the Mayfair witches, but have considered reading the vampire Chronicles. I read Interview with a Vampire at least 3 times during and right after high school.
I have picked out the first 72 books I plan to read in 2012. Seeing as I didn't even make 50 this year, I have no idea how I'm going to handle next year.I want to read the following series. I will reread the earlier books to prepare for the ones that are new to me:
1. Dresden Files & bonus stories - 14 or 15 books. (I've read 1 & 2)
2. Rachel Morgan (The Hollows) & bonus stories - 10 or 11 books. (I've read 1 - 5 or 6, I don't remember)
3. Honor Harrington & bonus stories - 23 books. (I've read 1 - 9)
4. Black Dagger Brotherhood series - 11 books (I've read 1 - 6)
Plus I'd like to read all of The Mobile Read Book Club Selections (depending on price & availability) - 12 books
Edit #1 (11.26.11): The Iliad - over a 4 to 6 week period starting January 9th @ MobileRead.
Edit #2 (11.29.11): February:Time Period, May:Region, June:Short Stories, & December:Open - of the Literary Book Club @ MobileRead.
Edit #3 (12,06.11): Charles Dickens - (as many as I can)
My initial count for books was off, so Series & MR BookClub + The Illiad + Literary BookClub + Dickens = 80 - 100
I suggest January 2011, like the other challenges for those who have already started reading the books, through the end of July or August.
*Thumbs Up*Are you able to set future challenges?
I know we had the Dresden Files challenge this year, but I would love to be able to do it in 2012, since I did not take advantage of it. Any chance of offering it again for next year?

Glad to know its not just me! :)
I think what I'll do...Instead of putting this down indefinitely, I'll continue reading the Anne of Green Gable series (I'm on book 3) alongside it. I was going to stop all series for the rest of the year, but, Anne's stories are so saccharine they're bound to help me combat any bad moods caused by Dark Legacy! LOL
Loosheesh wrote: "#1 - same as Christa's#2 - yes; this had more to do with my compulsions than any redeemable quality in the book ;)

Normally I would set it aside for later, and in fact that tends to happen naturally as I drift to other things, but my Kindle/TBR list is overflowing with possibilities so I don't want to make that "promise" to myself right now. If you know what I mean.
Dark Legacy doesn't really feel like work, its just really annoying me. If I read about about that dream one more time I think I'll scream!
I'm currently reading
and I'm really not sure I want to finish it. I'm 30% and almost 16 chapters into what could be a very interesting story, if the author wasn't trying so hard. In an attempt to ramp up the suspense, she has created a very disjointed, over-dramatized and angry book.So my questions:
1. At what point do you give up?
2. Have you ever gone back to a book you once thought you couldn't read/finish?
3. If you do put it down, do you count it as "read"?
4. If you count it as "read" do you count it towards the challenge?
Anyone who would also like to discuss all things Dresden Files on MobileRead, please check out the Dresden Files thread! :) Hope to see you there.
