I just finished reading and rating On Basilisk Station and I really enjoyed it, especially the last fee chapters.
Just finished Changer of Worlds: "Ms. Midshipwoman Harrington", which introduces us to Honor herself. Weber doesn't hold back on just about any prospect that can be found in the novels themselves.
I finished reading "A Beautiful Friendship" today. It was very bitter sweet for me as we had to put one of our cats, Little Bit, down today, and I was reading the story while we were waiting to hear from the vet before making the decision.Personal emotions aside, it was an excellent introduction to the "tree-cats" based on what I know from reading a few of the Honor Harrington novels. Although we get a basic idea of the bond between a tree-cat and his/her human, this story not only tells us about the initial contact and pairing of tree-cat and human, but it also allows us to appreciate the depth & intensity of said bond.
Apparently, the next two chronological stories: Worlds of Honor - The Stray and Worlds of Honor-What Price dreams?, gives us additional examples of tree-cat and human interactions.
So my journey begins. Instead of jumping right into the first short story, however, I am reading through "The Universe of Honor Harrington", from the first anthology - More Than Honor, which is described as a "deep background" essay covering topics such as the physics of space travel, the mechanics space colonization and politics of various "star nations", such as Manticore, Haven and the Solarian League.I'm skipping over the very technical parts and paying more attention to the historical and political sections.
I finished Ghost Story (and the series to date)earlier tonight. It is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to any fantasy, urban fantasy, and/or supernatural fans!!
I have completed the first series of my 2012 challenge and boy, was it a doozie!Ghost Story was a mixed bag that ended on a very good (as in interesting) note.
I will definitely buy Cold Days come Jan. 2013.
Homeinmyshoes wrote: "You should read Neverwhere if it wins or not. I think you'd like it. Unless, of course you've already read it."Thanks for the recommendation. It does look like its going to win the run-off vote. I'll keep it in mind, but I really don't think its going to happen this year.
I've removed the MRBC from my 2012 challenge since I've only read one selection this year. I will continue, however, to add the winning books to the group bookshelf every month.
Finished
as well! :) Only one more book left in the Dresden series, and then I'll be joining the others impatiently awaiting book #14 - Cold days
I just finished
a few minutes ago. That was just..wow! Crazy, scary, maddening goodness. I wish I didn't have to actually get some sleep before reading Aftermath and Ghost Story.
Caleb wrote: "Sounds like the series that never ends. :)"Alansplace has been really good about updating series info on my Dresden Files thread over @ MobileRead. He discussed series length somewhere in the thread (I just can not find it at the moment). The current plan is for there to be 20 "Individual" books and then a series ending trilogy! 23 books in all. :)
Just Finished Dresden Files #10 - Small Favor and may be starting book #11 - Turn Coat, tonight! (After I finish the bonus stories) I'm actually pretty excited about it as I here there are some really interesting things coming up...especially in book #12 - Changes.
I've just read "Its My Birthday, too" and "Heorot" from Side Jobs.Very interesting, oddly fun, but gross stories. The more I read, the more I love these characters.
Just Finished White Night. Its not my favorite in the series, but I enjoyed it none the less. On a side note: I am very happy I included all of my challenge links to the thread, as the the main one on our group page has been broken for weeks, if not months.
I Love, love love the movie, but have never read the book. I am looking forward to it. Dresden has pulled me back in, but I'm almost done with book 8.
I've just finished and thoroughly enjoyed
!! Next is the short story "Something Borrowed" from Side Jobs (the Dresden anthology), and then either
or
.
Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Black Rain was the last book club selection I've read. Nothing has been peaking my interest even enough to vote."Black Rain was compelling...and heart breaking. I'm still voting, but I'm happy I've removed the pressure from myself as far as having to read every selection.
