42178 After yet another unintended hiatus, I finally finished my 11th book: Sex On Tuesdays by June Whyte

I'm ridiculously behind now....

42178 Added Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane to the list for March. It was not my pick, but I will (try to) read it. I hope it isn't as scary as the movie promos made it out to be.

It's not all bad. I don't actually tire of the stories. Okay, there have been a few. Richard Scarry's Cars and Trucks and Things that Go had to disappear ..."

My eldest loved, loved, loved that book. Thankfully, he had as much fun looking at the pictures as he did my reading it, so it wasn't too bad. He then learned to read it himself. and wore it out. LOL

42178 Read a cute story, today, while at school. Updated info.

42178 Fantastic idea Christa! :)

Books: I'm reconsidering my dedication to the MR & Literary book clubs. They just don't feel "good" anymore. I'm hoping its just residual effects from all of the "politicking" at the end of last year, but there are presences there that really rub me the wrong way.

I had an unintended 2 week hiatus from reading, but I think/hope its over now. Book clubs aside, I do think I can get my reading back on track.

Personal: I've been substitute teaching for a month and a half now, and I like it, however, it is much more tiring than I was expecting. I see why some subs viewed it as a "babysitting" job, because there are days when trying to actually teach feels impossible. I, however, can not in my heart of hearts do that to the kids, so I try my best to follow the lesson plans left for me and/or fill in the blanks when necessary. Thankfully the media specialist that I still volunteer for, when not subbing, has agreed to help me make a "sub bag" for those last minute, no plans, jobs.

Unasked for advise: :)MrsJ., as a mom of 3 children (which includes a set of "surprise" twins -we wanted a 2nd child, but was surprised when we learned we'd also have a 3rd), I can tell you that there will never be "enough" money. :D

Facebook: I've been considering spring cleaning, as I'm not really as close to some of my old friends as I thought I'd be once we reconnected. I have a few obligatory, "family friendships", as well.

42178 Finished Blood Rites! Can't wait to see what happens next, but I'm afraid it won't be good....

I agree.

42178 Finished Dresden Files book 5 - Death Masks, and the "Publicity and Advertising/Vignette" short story tonight.

42178 Ah, okay, so I was the confused one! LOL.

I will be reading/rereading this series this year, but it'll be much later on. I reread books one and two a few months ago and I'm not ready to read them for a 3rd time, as yet.

Sorry, I don't mean that the Hollows is like The Southern Vampire series (its actually more like Dresden IMO). What I meant was that people call the series by the main character's name instead of the actual series name.

42178 Its like The Southern Vampire series which most people refer to as the Sookie Stackhouse series. Yes, this series is called The Hollows, but some people call it the Rachel Morgan series, (which is how I remember it first being suggested to me). Therefore, I decided to use both names, in order to cut down on any confusion.

42178 I get tired of the constant "Classic" selections as well. As you may know, I hate that we're stuck with 2 months of classics on top of having to deal with classics in every other genre, but as usual I've been shouted down whenever I mention it. I honestly believe that some of the voting is personality based (meaning voting with or against the people involved) instead of topic based, but that's just my 2 cents.

Oh? Why, if you don't mind my asking....

I think I'll read both. I'll start TITN and use Death Mask for my "breaks"... Of course, there is a very good chance I'll be sucked in and forget about TITN until I'm done with DM.

We'll see.

42178 Finished Summer Knight and I loved it! Trying to decide if I want to go straight into Death Masks or tackle the MobileRead book club selection, Tender is the Night, first.
Jan 29, 2012 05:41PM

42178 Decided to finish Pencils Make Good Darts. I was so caught up in Summer Knight, I forgot about it. It was an amusing read.

42178 Congratulations!!

42178 Just read a ridiculous short story called Franks, Rolls, and Beans.
Jan 20, 2012 07:25PM

42178 Best of luck with the review!
Jan 20, 2012 05:10PM

42178 Exactly!!
Jan 20, 2012 03:26PM

42178 I updated my challenge earlier, but got all caught up in the rereading issue and forgot to make my post here.

Now, I'm trying to find something to read in order to give myself a bit of a break from Dresden. Preferably it will be a stand-alone, light and maybe even funny. Free would help too since I need to wait and see if I have to purchase the book club selection from MR.
