Nyssa’s comments from the MobileRead Book Challenges group.

Ok, NOW I'm set!! I went back and counted all of the books from the series & book club selections in my challenge. I think I have it right this time. I originally had more, but decided to remove the books that are not out as yet, since I probably won't be getting any of them on the day of their release. That makes 80 challenge works and 20 open/bonus works.
OCD strikes again!

I like that its a different genre (almost) every month.
The group reading of the Iliad, however, is a bonus.

Here is the Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts: Let's talk about The Iliad thread. All are welcomed.
The Pope translation (which I have) seems to be one of the least liked, so Hamlet53 pointed out a version by Samuel Butler, available at MR (but in LRF format). I will be converting it to MOBI and reading that translation instead.

I've decided to give up on the intro, skip the preface and just read the books, starting tonight. If I can read one book a night I should be ready for the 9th.

I'd be interested in smut like recommendations as the short story freebies I've downloaded have been pretty disappointing in one way or another.

It was a little bit of this and a little bit of that today. I read a few more pages of Black Rain and I'm currently reading the very long intro to The Iliad.
I was hoping to have Black Rain finished before even tackling The Iliad (thinking I had until the 9th to start it) but the group read discussion starts on the 9th and will cover the first 6 books. Including the Intro and the Preface, that's almost 200 pages to read in 7 days, on top of Black Rain. I have my work cut out for me, especially seeing as Winter Break is over and its back to school tomorrow.

We'll be happy to have you. 97 was very close! Congratulations, at least you know that you can possibly get to 100 this year! :)

I wasn't anywhere near 100, and many of what I did read were short stories or novellas.

I'm asking my MR friends to please help me choose a new avatar for 2012: (Poll Has Ended and new avatar chosen on MR)

Also I want to say how happy I am to see so many people excited about reading next year. I think its going to be great fun, and our TBR lists will be overflowing even more! :)

I'm sorry geo-restrictions get in the way!

I will make an effort to participate in the discussions, even if its just to offer a "yay" or "nay" on the book. How involved I get will depend on the amount of free time I have, and how strongly I feel about the story.
I'll be going back to work(part time) shortly after the new year, (for the first time in 11 years), so who knows how things will go.

True. I'll give it a go...if I can get Ticker Factory to cooperate. Some of the images (like the cute little music note) are not working properly and I'm getting other images instead.
