222868 I've been binge reading the Stephanie Plum series. I'm to 19 (I think). Yes they are a formula but they're still fun. There's always something to laugh about.

On audio, I'm listening to Book Lovers by Emily Henry with my new libro.fm account. I wasn't sure I could do audio, but I've only had to back up once in while if my mind doesn't pay attention enough. And the app is easy with the 15 second backup button. The narrator is good too. She changes her voice enough to know someone else is talking, etc. Had some lol moments and my family thought I was crazy laughing to myself out loud not realizing I was listening to a book while I cleaned the house. This book is good, I'll try others by this author (Emily Henry) - she's very popular.

If you want to try libro.fm use this link and there is a code for the free book and my store will get credit.

222868 OK audio book lovers - I got the scoop on libro.fm and my store is set up as a partner.

-A membership is $14.99 a month plus taxes.
-You get 1 credit for the 14.99, good on over 250,000 books
-As a member you can also buy a la carte at 30% off the list price
-You OWN your audio books, they are DRM free and can be played on whatever device you want
-They do have a very handy app
-You can pause or stop membership at anytime and you will not lose any credits you have - they are yours forever.

If you join with my store link and the promo code you will get a 2nd credit for your first month, so you get a free audio book

https://libro.fm/?bookstore=loveyours...

My "online store" is set up, but the store picture is not my store - I have to send them a picture. So I think they just stuck another picture in there for now, lol

Libro splits the profits with the independent bookstore you choose, so the money goes to small local businesses instead of Amazon.

If you decide to try it, please use my store link above or select my store when signing up. I would really appreciate it!

222868 Audio book folks, any of you use Libro.fm? Its an independent bookstore audio book service.

I'm in the process of getting my store an account with Libro so when people buy audio books you can select a store and then the store gets credit (not sure how much), but they market the site as buying audio books from independent book stores.

They offer the monthly credit memberships but also a la cart buying without a membership. It actually looks kinda cool. Once approved I'll get free ALC (Advanced Listening Copies) so maybe I'll try audio again. I couldn't do it the last time I tried but I was using an old ipod and couldn't figure out how to pause/back up etc.

If interested here's the link. I'll post again when I get set up in case anyone uses the service and wants to pick my store. :)

222868 I am getting frustrated ordering new books from Ingram. You need 15 units for free shipping, and next week that is going up to 20. (You still have to pay the fuel surcharge fee). So I'm trying to get an order in this week.

I try to make my orders for things that B&N probably doesn't have in their stores plus a couple "popular" titles. So I'm getting a bunch of Colleen Hoover backlist titles among other things. But I need a few more titles to make the minimum, and nothing I want is in my primary warehouse. Everything has to ship from same warehouse to get the free shipping. No Ilona Andrews, No Patricia Briggs, No Anne Bishop. They have limited copies in other warehouses. Sigh.

The good news is I'm getting better at navigating their system. I found the link that shows all new books that came out current week and coming out next week, plus the indie best sellers lists.

222868 I finally finished Empire of the Vampire (Empire of the Vampire, #1) by Jay Kristoff , all 800 or so pages.

Wooboy. I ended up giving it 4*. It would've been higher but it was just too...depressing is too strong a word. I mean it was about evil vampires and all, but it would've been nice for a few more "good" things to happen during this mammoth book. Except for the quotation mark thing I mentioned, I really did like the writing. Yes it could've been shorter and some parts felt repetitive but there was a reason for it and it added to the poetic nature of the writing.

So now I need something light and fluffy to read.

lol, you nailed it

I don't mind trilogies but if I know its a trilogy then I wait for all the books to be out. This books is looongggggg and for the most part is still engaging after 600 pages. So that's a good sign. Other than the annoying, confusing quotation marks issue, I do like it. I love long book if its good, so that' not the problem.

But Now that I'm nearing the end and there's tons of stuff not resolved I know I'm gonna have to wait. Ug. Wish I new it was going to be a trilogy. And the next one doesn't even have a title or publication date. This book came out last September so I'll have to wait until at least his September for the next one.

uh oh....just realized this is gonna be a trilogy. I hope the book ends with some answers/conclusions or at least no cliff hanger!

222868 I'm reading Empire of the Vampire (Empire of the Vampire, #1) by Jay Kristoff .
Yikes this is a looonggggg book - over 12k locations, 850 pages. I'm about halfway through. Its kinda dark, but well written. I'm actually tempted to jump to the end to see what happens, and I never do that.

One annoying thing is the story is being told from the main character as a story to someone else. So everything is in quotes, and it gets confusing as to who is talking, as it jumps around a bit. I think it would be a little better if he just told his story and then when those 2 people spoke (the character and the person with him) have that in quotes. This might sound like a stupid complaint, but there's quotes inside quotes then inner thoughts, etc.

Anyway, depending on the ending this could be 4-5* for me.

If you liked Daughter of Smoke & Bone, then you may really enjoy Strange the Dreamer duology. I liked it even better, and there is a cross over element.

I love her crazy "Southernisms" and over the top situations and..

I was wondering if we should start a separate discussion about up coming books that are available as ARC's from NetGalley. Just a thought, I would happily settle for postings on this board.."

I think mentioning ARCs here are fine, in case someone else wants to request, or as Paula mentioned it reminds folks of stuff coming up, etc.

But no spoilers - if we want to talk about the books before release then we can start a different thread. I always keep my reviews spoiler free.

222868 I dug out my old kindle 2nd generation and it still looks and works like new, just had to charge it up. The only problem is it's 3G which has been disabled, so the only way to put books on it is to download and transfer with USB.

I was thinking of giving it away on the neighborhood Buy Nothing group on Facebook, but it was my first kindle. And it will do text to speech which most of the newer devices won't do. So I'm hesitant, event though I have a paperwhite and two different Fires. Can you tell I have trouble letting things go? lol

Yeah I saw the audible mentioned in another post. That stinks. I keep getting emails saying I can "get 2 audible books for free" from amazon, but I have zero interest.

222868 The other day I got an email from NetGalley saying I was approved for a book. I couldn't even remember requesting it because the title was not familiar. I finally logged into the netgalley and it looks I'll be reviewing The Friendship Pact (Sunrise Cove, #2) by Jill Shalvis . Now I have see if I need to read the others in this series first. But it doesn't come out until June so I have a little time.
