I have the harry potter first edition and the Judy Garland vinyl set on a shelf behind the cash wrap area. You can clearly see them but would have to walk behind the tables to get to them and it would be quite obvious. At some point I will look into a glass case. I only have 2 or 3 things I would want to lock up right now so I don't want to invest in that now. I'm using 2 folder tables that are counter height for the check out area with black table cloths over them. Cash wrap fixtures are expensive! I'll keep checking facebook marketplace to see if I can find a used one that is a glass case too.

I'll leave the vinyl in the store for now and I'm gonna price it at like $500 as a conversation starter. If someone wants to make an offer I'll consider lower. When I get really desperate I'll list it online somewhere. :)

222868 I finally finished A Light in the Sky (Clashing Skies, #1) by Shina Reynolds for review from NetGalley. It started OK, but ended up being pretty bad. I spent forever trying to type a review that didn't just trash it. The bad books are the hardest to review! And I wasted days on this book, and finally skimmed the last few chapters. The main character just kept getting stupider!!!

Now I can finally read the latest Acton & Doyle!

My bookstore is opening next Thursday. I am still setting up account with Ingram to be able to order new books and other stuff (there was problem with their onboarding site). I think I am finally ok on the used book inventory/back stock (I hit the library sale today), but hopeful people turn in books within first couple of weeks to be on the safe side. I did order remainders but they still haven't shipped (its been like 2 weeks.) But I need to open to start getting some of my back into the business account o cover rent and expenses. I've got some great books on my shelves, a way better selection that the store I used to go to (she pretty much only did MMP books).

Oh and I got some vinyl records at an estate sale last weekend. In the bunch was a 3 album Judy Garland souvenir box set with a printed program pamphlet inside from 1939. The only place I found selling it online was a guy on ebay selling it for $450!

222868 I finished a complete reread of Ilona Andrews - Kate Daniels world, the Edge, Innkeeper and Hidden Legacy. All in a a row.

Now I am trying to read a YA I got for review through NetGalley coming out in November which I've had for a couple of months. Yeah....not the greatest idea to read it after all those Ilona Andrews books

Its actually not that bad, but little things are annoying me such as way over use of italics. For the love of all that is holy every other sentence does not need something italicized! That, and a secondary character has an obvious similarity to one in The Hunger Games, which I read like 10 years ago and still remember so I'm sure others will note it as well. But it has me interested enough to see what's going to happen, who are the evil people and who are the good guys etc.

updated to add book:
A Light in the Sky

They're not marked as library editions. Weird.

222868 I opened an account on bookdepot.com to purchase remainders wholesale. They have Sapphire Flames and Emerald Blaze in hardcover, which is weird since they released as paperbacks. I'm going to grab them but I'm not going to want to sell them. lol

I can't resist at $3 each!

I don't think I will deliver books to book clubs/reading groups unless they purchase but if local I would not mind delivering after hours. I am going to offer book appraisals free for people who think their books might be worth something. I'm getting pretty good at it. There's really only 2 sites you need to check but the condition of the book is always the variation. I've found some great articles on how to go about it for vintage books. And I would be happy to help find books for people.

222868 Lulu wrote: "LAB, that is an adorable name for your shop!"

Thanks Lulu! I actually had a spreadsheet of names that I brainstormed and I went down the list with my family. We all liked Love Your Shelf best. (I had wanted Wicked Good Reads as a salute to Howling Good Reads from the Others series which I love, but alas it was already taken here in MA). I've hada lot of people comment on the name, so I am so glad it makes people remember it.

Also, almost every day I've been at the store setting up, someone has stopped by to ask when I was opening. And that is with no advertising except for the street sign and the sign above my shop. I was not there one day and the caterer next door told me that like 4 people stopped by and looked in the the windows. It helps that the comic book store guy 2 doors down has been there like 10 years I think.

oh my, thanks for the warning. I thought it was a duology. Guess I am waiting to read the last graduate then. I hate cliffhangers!

222868 um...I still use the little register that comes with my checks. Each week when hubby gets paid, I do a quick balance from the previous week and just a write B at the last entry. So that way if something is off, I only have to double check the previous week. The bank keeps statements online and copies of all the checks, so if I ever had to go back and get something its already in their cloud. For my taxes I keep a folder in the kitchen and after I've paid something if its something that I need for taxes it goes in the folder so its all together for tax time. I did Quicken when it first came out I think in in the 90s, and quite honestly entering receipts and payments felt like another job, and I really didn't care how much I spent in a category.

For my bookstore that I am opening I have an excel spreadsheet off all expenses.

Don't get me started on software subscriptions. It makes me so mad that you basically have rebuy the software every year.

222868 I found an error in my judgement. I still don't want to put Magic Bites down even though I've read it before more than once. So Kate Daniels may be a problem because I have so much to do and we are going on vacation this week. I thought if I picked something I read before I wouldn't mind being interrupted from reading when we go to do stuff. Big mistake. lol.

222868 That moment when you have tons of books but can't decide what to read so you decide to just read the entire Kate Daniels series again.... :)

222868 I'm reading an ARC of The Traitor (Fire's Edge, #5) by Abigail Owen . Its pretty good so far. This is a good dragon series (though I did not read all the earlier books) and the spin off series as well.

My apologies. At the time it was posted on the KA fan group, it was posted as a shooting, and it was only being called a "tragic incident" and there was a link for a story mentioning a shooting, I guess in the same area? But yes, was a very bad car accident. :(

222868 My bookstore LLC is official with the IRS and the state of MA:
Love Your Shelf LLC

I am the owner of a corporation!

Tomorrow I head to the town hall to start the business certificate (town approval for the space I am renting). I need approval from like 8 different departments.

Once that is done I can sign the lease. The building actually sold last week but the new owner told the previous owner that he still would rent to me at the same deal. But I will feel better once the lease is signed.
