222868 This book was mentioned here and just letting folks know its available on netgalley as a "read now" so no approval needed. I'm going to give it a shot!

222868 We went to Savers yesterday (thrift store), they had a 40% off sale on books & media for rewards members. I like to go and see if anything good because the prices are extra cheap.

So my husband finds a hardcover first edition of Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix with the UK cover. So we figured what the heck, I'll buy it for $1.07 and if nothing else can sell it in my store.

I checked bookfinder.com last night and in US its worth $155 - $200, because it was never distributed in the US. Yay!

222868 I must be weird. Sometimes it seems that every book the rest of the world absolutely loves, I'm over here like ..."meh"

Finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab . It was very beautifully written. It was just too sad and depressing for me. It was also slow and I didn't like the ending. Oh well.

I've always be afraid to try ebay. No idea why. I find Mercari pretty simple so I like that. No listing fee, just 10% of the transaction amount and their processing fee. I list all the books I sell with free shipping so I add that amount to the price and try to make $4-$5 a book, but for bundles like the dark hunter bools I only made like $2 a book, but the sale was like $25 - not bad for books I was never going to read again.. I've made $300 so far.

If you want to donate your books to me I would be thrilled. If not, no worries.

222868 Kristi & Frisco - That is so kind of you to offer and I would love any books you have, but it would depend on the weight to ship for me to pay you. In US there is media mail which is a set rate for the country (so doesn't matter what zip code). For up to 1 pounds is 2.89, then 2 pounds is $3.49, 3 pounds is $4, 4 pounds is 4.57 and so on. Its a pretty good deal and it comes with free tracking, but if it ends up being more than .50 cents a book for me to pay you for shipping then not sure I could make much profit. MMPs are going to be $4 or less in the store. I sold 12 dark hunter books on Mercari a few months and I had to spend about $4-$5 to ship to the buyer. So for paperbacks it definitely works better. I love media mail!

I do sell online now but its through Mercari - which is like an online yard sale with buyer protection, and 4 different Facebook buy/sell/trade groups. I would still do that with the store stock as well, and maybe with Etsy for older books.

I bought a signed copy of The Night Circus for $10 shipped off a facebook group and its worth over $100 - that's for my own collection. I also found a hardcover first edition of the first In Death book at Savers (thrift store) for 3.99 and ended up selling it on Mercari for $48. Its kinda fun flipping for resale! There is a website Bookfinder.com and you put in the ISBN number and you see online listings so I base prices of collectible books off that.

The town library had a book sale the last 2 days - $5 to fill a bag. For $10 I got 91 MMPs (I purposely stayed away from the hard covers and trade paperbacks) so that came out to .11 a book. And I have been collecting off local facebook listings for months - people are always giving away free books! I do want to make sure the store looks full so I am always hunting for them. My guess is I have anywhere from 1500 - 2,00 books right now, but that is not enough to fill the shelves, especially since the kids books are thinner.

I have so many cases of books in my house right now I can't wait to get them all out. Plus bookshelves I've gotten for free or really cheap from estate sales. I can't wait to get my house back in order. :)

222868 OK guys I have some news. If everything goes to plan I will be opening my own used book store in a few months. We had one in the area that was there for over 20 years, and when the governor shut down all the stores for COVID the lady decided to just retire. There was a line around the block for her going out of business sale. (People still go there not knowing the store has been closed.) A few months later I lost my corporate job and I was thinking how I don't want to sit in a cubicle anymore. I wanted to do something I love and that's not corporate compliance training or sitting in waste of time meetings. So after months of searching I found a great location with a great landlord. If all goes well will be opening in September!

I have I think 2 on my netgalley shelf and another offer in my email. I try to read them about a month before publication. I like doing it because A) sometimes I get a book I really want (like the upcoming honey badger book) and B) I'll be honest and say I like telling people when they ask what I do in spare time and say I'm a "volunteer book reviewer". I actually used that in a job interview - they were impressed by that and that I read over 100 books a year but I still didn't get the job. :)

OK, then I can see why I don't remember coffins in the garage. I have not reread any of the books (though they are on my keeper shelf). My memory is best from about The King on, so I don't think they were mentioned in any of the later books. But that darn mural of the apple tree in bloom and the all the statues in the hallways, yup those are never ending. :)

222868 OK, BDB fans have a question. I mentioned in my review for the last book Lover Unveiled that the coffins of past Brothers were in the garage and I thought it was weird that this was never mentioned before. A person commented that this was mentioned in almost every book? Is this for real? I have zero recollection of coffins ever mentioned being in the garage!

222868 Weirdly I find that most of the most popular YA I just don't like. I did not like A Court of Thorns and Roses by Maas (gave it 2*), and I just finished the Grisha Trilogy and it was meh, kinda the same way I felt about the Crooked Kingdom duology. I did not really like A Curse so Bold and Deadly trilogy either! These are all very popular books.

I miss the days of staying up to 2AM to read a good YA, or pre-kindle days lugging 2 giant books to my brother's house to read by the pool because I was reading Vampire Academy at the time and was close to finishing one of the books and needed to be able to start on the next one right away.

Well, gladly I just finished an older Jennifer Armentrout that I enjoyed enough to give 4*. White Hot Kiss.

222868 Finished All Rhodes Lead Here. A nice slow burn romance that Demetra had recommended. I enjoyed it. Its pretty long but I liked that about it. I didn't want to put it down. Got a little wordy at times and had some small nitpicks for me. Overall it was great, gave 4*.

Its really strange - some of her books are fabulous, some are ok/enjoyable, and some are just horrible. You never know what you're going to get these days. After the last Chaos book I felt like "WTF did I just read?" But the first dream team book was enjoyable enough. The 2nd one was even a little better, but this last one was another WTF.

Thanks for mentioning Breaking Badger on NetGalley. I got approved today!

I also have 4 other books to get to but thank god the release dates are over month away and I had already started one before I got the badger book. Someone at St. Martins Press just keeps sending me approved links. I don't always feel like reading them but I don't want to to turn any down. They are all usually historical romance and I usually do like them.

222868 I've been reading Penny Reid Winston Brothers. I needed a break from dark stories. I like these! I know this is spin off series from her knitting series. Might go back and read those at some point, but I don't feel like I'm missing anything other than some character references which are mentioned/explained.

book 1
Truth or Beard (Winston Brothers, #1) by Penny Reid

I did stop after Cletus' book to read The Crown of Gilded Bones (Blood and Ash, #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout since I've been waiting for this one.
