Unlike the Goodreads awards that many times hype books that suck, generally the Hugo awards actually give awards to books that are a really good :) Here are a few of this years winners:
Best Novel: Network Effect, Martha Wells
Best Novella: The Empress of Salt and Fortune, Nghi Vo
Best Novelette: Two Truths and a Lie, Sarah Pinsker
Best Short Story: “Metal Like Blood in the Dark”, T. Kingfisher (Uncanny Magazine, September/October 2020)
Best Series: The Murderbot Diaries, Martha Wells
In case some of you have not read a few of us regaling the exceptional MurderBot series, trust us, it is amazing. looks like a lot of other folks felt the same.

Just finished
When We Were Kings and enjoyed it totally, one of the better things I have read and you never know exactly where it is going, lots of gladiator action so it is a bit gory but not too descriptive. There is what seems to be a really slow burn romance but while the book has a good solid ending there are some things that have to be dealt with in the next 2 books. This one is close to 5 Stars but since the story is not really finished I am giving it 4 Stars and losing sleep reading it

Thanks BJ, it was not that long ago after all . It was a real 5 Star surprise and I was looking for something exceptional last night

OK, my memory is shot, sometime in the last few years I read a historical romance that started with the hero who was dressed like a servant (but was not) coming into his library I think to find a woman sitting in his favorite chair and he asked her to move and she refuses. They end up married due to an Aunt and the woman is far below him in society. Anyone have a clue as to what I am talking about?

Well I love it when I get surprised by a book, I was just browsing for a book that looked good and saw
The Duke of Diamonds which looked good but I just finished it and it was a 5 Star story told very well but I am still considering giving it a 4 Star rating because it does have a bit of something I despise the "I have a secret I can't tell" even though it would have solved almost all problems at one point but I still loved it but on a scale of 1-10 my revenge meter only hit about a 7 :) I think there is a sequel or 2 that I may have to read.

I have been busy and my reading has suffered but I finally finished
After Dark with the Duke and have mixed feelings. The story was wonderful, the telling of it was at times wonderful and at times mind numbingly boring and repetitive. The ending was fantastic and the epilogue almost made up for any misgivings I had so it will be 4 Stars since it has an ending I could read multiple times but a bit too much time was spent inside the 2 main characters heads IMHO and did little but add pages

Damn, I went through all the books nominated and found one book to vote for (the latest Murderbot book) but I saw what I thought was a pattern of social propaganda inserted it seemed.
Fugitive Telemetry

This has gotten to the point of insanity:

Well I can truthfully say I have never read anything by Nora Roberts that was less than 4 stars and more 5 stars than most but some really do take their time getting warmed up. I also read about the first 6-7 of the 'In Death" series and did it in about a week and I think I kind of burned myself out on them. I still consider
The Witness one of the better books overall I have read.
Paula wrote: "I just came across a new Lois McMaster Bujold book that I only chanced upon. I am following her so I can't figure out why I never get notifications about new book releases. At least I know what I'm..."LOL, great minds think alike? I bought book 1 of this yesterday the series looked interesting
Lulu wrote: "Doug, have you never read this series by Alexandra Ivy?."I have read some of her other stuff but not this series and so far book 1 is great
When Darkness Comes

I just started
When Darkness Comes and I don't even want to go to bed yet, I love a book that starts hard and fast but the time change with lost sleep is going to win over a good story tonight LOL

Well I have about a dozen irons in the fire at present but I managed to get
The Duke's Perfect Wife done and liked it a lot, the sex was a bit overdone but the story and backstory was interesting and their was some real danger so all things considered I give it 4 stars and did enjoy it but I did not run in every night to grab it (but I did the last few chapters)
Lulu wrote: "I know, cold and dark here and raining right now! I'm ready for a nap and I just got up."LOL, I thought I was the only one that bad :)

Same here, my body is ready to go into hibernation

Has anyone read this, it sounds amazing but it takes a real dedication to take on a 1000+ page book. Please let me know your thoughts if you have read it

ADDED: I think I will get it no matter what, it is on sale for $2.99 with audio included for certain devices. I have thrown away more than that on books I hated :)

FYI anyone that wants to read a really good historical romance should get a copy of
Rules for Heiresses , it will be released in about 4 days on the 26th or you might still be able to grab a copy from Netgalley but it is getting late for that.
DemetraP wrote: "Lulu wrote: "I could hardly read the TH novella with the medusa for a heroine."
I didn't like that book either. It didn't grab me."Make that 3 of us

OK, was I the only one that did not know they had increased KU to 20 books instead of 10?

Well shocking myself I really enjoyed
Cowboy Dragon it was kind of dopey in places and for the most part was a contemporary cowboy romance since the guy was a dragon for maybe half of 1 chapter. The sex was not too bad , about 4-5 instances but the author devoted many descriptive pages to those instances. It was a solid 4 Star for me and i actually stayed up late to finish it, I have time before my next ARC so I think I will try the second book
