222868 The Earl and the Spinster was one of the better historical romances I have read in a long time. Reading the second book now and it looks good as well so far. in book 1 she went so far into how destitute and poor they were I was getting depressed before things took a turn for the better LOL

222868 Historical romance has become one of my favorite genres and a few months back I gave the first book in this series a well deserved 5 Star review The Spinster and the Rake and got the 2nd book Much Ado About Dukes hoping for a repeat but not only was it not as good, I finally today after a week or more gave it a DNF and will move on to more entertaining books. The question now is to read one I bought for myself such as Seduce Me at Sunrise which looks to be exceptional or grab one from my TBR of books I was given to read and review but the only books on that list that are calling to me are a couple that will not be released until about December. (sigh)

222868 Every now and then I get in a mood where I don't really want to read anything, think that is where I am now since I have one that I could normally knock out in 1 or 2 days that I have had for a week.

222868 Just getting through a couple of historical romance that I accepted the ARC for, nothing bad but nothing really outstanding so far.

222868 Sometimes authors just hit a really high point they can never reach again, with Mariana Zapato for me The Wall of Winnipeg and Me was that high point since nothing else she has written has grabbed me like that one, same with Meljean Brook who I love but The Kraken King was a homerun she has never reached again (obviously these are all my opinions of my own enjoyment)

Same here and it was one of my all-time favorites and it just lost that "something" that made them great

222868 You people are going to have to stop recommending all these books, I am buried in books I want to read but sadly (or not) I have about 15 I have agreed to read for a review so TBR just keeps growing. I had to add that Artek it just sounded too good and the whole series just sounds really entertaining. I am sure I will get to it in the next decade sometime.

222868 I figure to say Ruby Fever was freakin amazing to this group would be redundant :) Now I have to come back to the real world of less stellar authors who might actually (hopefully) surprise me. So I am starting The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and hoping it will be a gem.

222868 Well I finally got to start Ruby Fever and I have to say I was not even to chapter 1 before the action kicked in, that pair sure know how to get your attention fast LOL

222868 Well in my last post on "The Book Of Ice" by Mark Lawrence the final thought is that in comparison to his other works this one was a disappointment only surpassed in lack of entertainment value possibly by "The Red Queens War" trilogy. I would not recommend either of them to anyone. The ratings must be from dedicated fans that give him high marks regardless of the quality of the story itself. The "Broken Empire" trilogy was a masterpiece but had some disturbing scenes that make it not for everybody but the "Book of the Ancestor" trilogy was superb in every way. Since he seems to follow each masterpiece with a trilogy that does not measure up maybe in 2-3 years there will be another masterpiece level trilogy, I will keep my fingers crossed.

222868 "The Book Of Ice" is a trilogy by Mark Lawrence who writes these masterpiece level stories (my opinion) and for the most part you really hate to see them end, this one is not to that level, this is the trilogy listed on Amazon

It is slightly related to a previous trilogy that WAS a masterpiece level story

222868 Well I am on the home stretch for "The Book Of Ice" and while it may be a near masterpiece of writing talent it suffers from a lack of entertainment value IMHO. I am sure we are going to have a wonderful ending I assume from the other books of his I have read but I doubt I would recommend this 1200+ doorstop to anyone that was not already a fan. I should let you know about the ending in a day or 2 and then I can grab Ruby Fever , this has really put me behind and I am really disappointed. I read The Grapes of Wrath many years ago and had a similar reaction, amazing writing since I was hungry and thirsty the whole time I was reading it and this book made me cold and depressed pretty much the whole time but that is not entertainment and enjoyable reading IMHO

222868 The Hob's Bargain and her other fantasy books were some of the very first fantasy adventure/romance books I ever read and I can still remember large portions of it, it was SO good.

222868 Well I have been slogging through the first volume of "The Book Of Ice" by Mark Lawrence who I consider most of his works near masterpiece but I am having a hard time picking this one back up every night, it may be more because the environment is SO depressing but I am ready to set it down and pick up something a bit more entertaining. This does prove the point that good writing does not equal entertaining.

222868 Well it may take me awhile to get back here, I accepted the ARC of the final book Mark Lawrence's "Book Of The Ice" trilogy and since it is over 1200 pages it may take me a few days to get through it but all his other trilogies were about the same length and I consider all but 1 of them near masterpiece level.

The Girl and the Stars
The Girl and the Mountain
The Girl and the Moon

222868 In 5 days The Bodyguard will be released and you really need to get a copy. It was different from what I usually read but it was a 5 star reading experience for me. No sex but a lot of romance ..... sort of and you will love every minute of it from the hilarious moments to the more serious scenes. It was a great book with one of those endings that leaves you with a smile on your face.
