222868 Well I have had my clothes washer die and before it was a week old the dishwasher followed it to the grave so my reading time has been reduced since the wife requires the house to be prepared for royalty when any repairmen/installers come. I have gotten to read about 40% of Crowbones and still loving it but I read a review the other day that summarized how I feel about a lot of Anne Bishop writing "She spent a lot of time in the book writing about mundane everyday things but somehow it was so interesting I did not scan one word of it" throw in the about the time you think you might be getting bored she throw in a laugh-out-loud moment or a new "WTF just happened" moment. I am afraid this will be like most of her other books in that I hate to see it end.

222868 Well once again I have made a tactical mistake. NetGalley approved me for a copy of Crowbones and I grabbed it at about 8:30PM to read a bit. Turns out it has 350ish pages and 96 chapters and I made it to 20% before I was dozing off since I was still recovering from my 3AM binge watching of "Reacher" but so far it is excellent and keeps you guessing WTF is happening. Glad I am retired or I would have to call in sick tomorrow :)

222868 Entire series is 8 episodes and I watched them all in a "I will watch one more and then go to bed" until 3 AM when the last one ended :) The stuff I read says if they continue the series each season will encompass one of his books in a general sense

222868 BTW, I was up until 3AM watching the new Amazon Prime series "Reacher" very violent but I loved it :) They had 1 X-Rated scene that was really unneeded early in the series. I think the idea was to let you hate the bad guys so much you did not care what he did to them later.

222868 Just as a follow-up turns out that IMHO "Quicksilver" was about a low 4 overall, great first 1/3 great last 1/3 but the 1/3 in the middle was kinda boring

222868 My Dad was a State Trooper and had driven over a million miles, taking his keys away was a chore but was court ordered after 2 wrecks (no injuries thankfully) but shortly after, he developed this habit of walking all day which had him in great physical shape but his mind was devolving and after he walked into traffic a couple of times the court once again ordered him into a lockdown facility but the worst thing was the social worker showed up with a book full of some horrible police reports that we never knew about because the police would just bring him home. The last 7-10 years of his life were spent as someone not even related to the man he was for the first 60+ years

Yeah I saw one on there that looked good but when I went to buy it it said this "You purchased this item on February 23, 2020." which says again, I have too many books LOL. Now I got to go find it in my massive TBR

222868 I just finished The Wolf of Oberhame The Gladiator Queen: Complete Trilogy and really loved it, gets boring in a few places and I did some scanning but overall it was near 5 Stars but they did push LGB pretty hard at times as secondary characters but even with that I loved the overall story.

222868 I feel your pain also ladies, I have spent almost $2000 on my 2005 Freestyle in the last 45 days but it has about 200K miles on it but I now have a car that is dependable and perfect for my uses (it would take a minimum of $25,000 for a comparable used one, more like $50K for a new one). I got vaccinated against "new car fever" many years ago

222868 Well since I am obviously just obsessed with buying books I grabbed The Snow Birds also since it did sound like it was a bit different but still interesting.

I am loving The Gladiator Queen: Complete Trilogy the story is great and as with the majority of trilogies I have read, book 2 was the worst, seemed to waste a lot of time and angst but book 3 is back on the "can't put it down" track and will probably finish tonight. It will be 4 or 5 Stars I will decided once I finish, a female heroine who is obviously very strong but is not written as a female playing a man's part.

222868 Trying to find a reading order and a complete list of Andre Norton's "Witch World" books is a frustrating and somewhat fruitless endeavor. I have read most of them and they probably got me into reading fantasy more than any other series/author

222868 I get these emails everyday telling me what great books I am missing and for the most part I ignore them but this one caught my eye and I read the free teaser on the page and I was hooked into buying (only $1.99) and from what I saw there was no need to have read any previous novels in the series

It is traumatic but the book gives you a lot more depth, the movie reflected the basic story but the book gives you a much deeper understanding and a much better viewpoint of his mental insights as things progressed

222868 If you are ever in a mood of "I can't find anything to read" pick almost any of these and you will not be disappointed :)

I feel the need to point out that ANYONE who has not read Flowers for Algernon should get a copy and read it immediately after you slap yourself silly for being so uninformed (and watching the movie does not begin to impart the impact of this amazing book). I read it decades ago and can still remember almost all of it details included, that is how much of an impact it can have. Get a copy NOW!!
